Most of us have grown up in some form of a neighborhood where you became friends with all the neighbor kids. You grew up playing hide-n-go-seek and chasing down the ice cream truck with these kids and all of your parents became really close. You would have sleepovers and weekly barbeques with each other, and carry on to be friends throughout your grade school and high school years. The neighborhood I live in now isn't quite like my memories from childhood. There are no parents or ice cream trucks, but there is a lot of fun.
This neighborhood I am talking about is Greek Town. Most of you have already lived here, are currently living here, or are anxiously waiting to get out of your closet sized dorm and move here. My neighbors are awesome and welcoming. This past year I have had the experience living in this incredible town and I don’t know if I am ready to leave.
On days when the weather is just right, Greek Town is the place to be. All the fraternity men sit outside and blast their stereos filling the streets with music. The music ranges from the latest rap music to good ole ‘90s throwbacks. They bring out the footballs, wiffleballs or volleyballs and play in the front yard; and if the girls are lucky their adorable housedog will come outside to join the fun. On Fridays when the weather is beautiful the fraternities will host day parties (dartys) where the proper attire is a bro tank, Nike shorts and Ray Bans.
When the snow comes storming down the fun still doesn’t stop. All the sorority and fraternity members are in walking distance from their best friends to celebrate this day off of school. It may be too cold to walk to class, but it’s not too cold to walk around Greek Town.
Game days, one of my personal favorites, are a big celebration in Greek Town. All the fraternities have tents set up (one in particular may even set up a pool) where families and other friends gather to tailgate before the Mizzou football games. These days are my favorite part of living in Greek Town. The whole town is covered with people showing their school spirit by wearing black-and-gold and starting the day off right with an ice cold drink.
Your average days and nights in Greek Town are pretty great as well. The fraternities will come up with the corny beach or 80’s theme parties and everyone will get all decked out and go join the fun. Themed parties are always a hit, because no matter how unoriginal the theme is, everyone loves to dress up.
Sadly, I, and many other people, only have a little over a month to call this place our home before we have to move out of our beautiful mansions and frat castles. This last month will hopefully be filled with dartys and great memories with great people. I envy the freshman that get to take my spot next year, but I hope all of them enjoy it as much as I did.
