We as Americans should all support the United States Military; present and past, wives, husbands, daughters, sons, grandchild, etc. Unfortunately, not everyone has that mindset, and it's starting to become a bigger problem all the time.
My great-grandpa was a coder in World War II, and he was sure proud of his service. I mean, why shouldn't he be? He did something so brave, and so amazing. He, along with hundreds of others, served our country proudly. We as their family should be proud of what they did and we shouldn't have to even think twice about telling someone we had or have a loved one that was/is a veteran.
People now are so quick to give their opinion, to put people down, to SHAME someone for doing something that doesn't sit well with them. I am fine if you judge me because I am a cattle rancher, or because I punish my dog, or because I believe in God, but one thing I am absolutely not okay with is hate and slander towards the United States Military.
Now, I am not saying you can't disagree with the military or the war because you can. You, as an American and living in a free country have that God given right. What I am saying is you can disagree without the hatred or slander. Not only is it very disrespectful to the veterans, and those currently serving, it's hurtful towards the family. I am PROUD of my great-grandpa. I am PROUD that I am the great-granddaughter of a World War II Veteran.
My great-grandpa passed away July 29, 2015, and you can bet your ass that he had a full honors Military service. Why? Because he deserved it. He earned that right, and you don't get to take that away from my family or any other families with service members.
So, next time a person says with proudness that he or she has a veteran in his or her family, and that his/her significant other is coming home, don't say one of your snide remarks. As much as it may hurt you, thank their service member for their service, smile, and move on with your business.
