If you’re like me, you’re someone paranoid of spending money to treat yourself. You have a fashion sense that can’t really be categorized that encompasses a bunch of different styles. You enjoy thrifting and want to get anything that looks and fits well, is unique or would be ironic to wear in public. Unfortunately, having this sort of style is not always fun on your wallet- or your sanity and closet space!
That’s why I’m here to help. Since I was a sophomore in high school, I’ve been hoarding and saving different thrift websites that are cheap, reliable and look fantastic!
1. Shop Miss A
This site has jewelry, hair accessories, sunglasses, makeup, scarves, stationary and so much more for $1! Yes, you read this correctly. This is my favorite place to find and get birthday and holiday presents for my friends. Everything is cute and fun and the best part is, you’re not forced to spend a fortune to get fists for your friends or for yourself!
2. Thrifty Nifty
Indecision is a popular trait amongst college students. Why bother spending time picking out what color shirt you want when you can have someone else pick for you? Thriftynifty allows you to pick the type of clothing you want, your size, then sends you a mystery outfit! It’s a fun way to try out a new style or just a nice surprise to get in the mail!
3. Moddeals
While their checkout cart is down for an indefinite period of time, Moddeals is my favorite to use to get clothes and “screen” browse. I would not have been able to make it through my first Ohio winter without the scarves, sweaters and shirts purchased from this site. It has the aesthetic of the popular vintage site Modcloth, but without the outlandish prices. Everything comes in fantastic condition and looks great!
4. 5.99 Fashion
Is it almost impossible to get the right size online and in stores? Have no fear-- 5.99 Fashion not only sells smaller sizes for women and men, but has a large and nice variety of different plus size outfits.
5. Storenvy
A similar layout to Etsy, this craft-and-sell site is home to several artists and crafters making and selling their own works. Besides the stickers and buttons, the site also sells cosplays, accessories, socks, underclothes, and other outfits. Exploring this site is hit-or-miss when it comes to finding cheap options, but they’re out there! The same explore and see what you find applies to Redbubble and Etsy as well.
6. Delaware Thrift Shops
This city has so many antique shops and thrift shops- you don’t even have to leave Sandusky for them! Coming from D.C., where thrift shops are only identified by their name, and they're still-expensive price tags, getting clothes in Delaware is a dream come true. My favorite place is Thrift Chic, which serves both men and women’s clothing, though the men’s section is depraved.
7. Shop Goodwill- Online and In Real Life!
I’ve found some great products at the Goodwill in the area. Despite needing a ride there, it’s a fantastic place to find costume pieces and other outfits!
A general note about online thrift shopping- stay away from sites like Rosegal. They’re usually the types of sites that steal images off of people’s Instagram accounts and sell you damaged, broken and poorly-made clothes.
Things to look out for are no reviews, a countdown timer next to the “Add to Cart” button, if a picture of the item pops up on your screen instead of directing you immediately to its page or if you’re able to Google photo search the image and come up with a list of sites all claiming to sell it.
