We are a country built upon the foundation that we are all different but also equal. Which is true. Everybody has their own strengths, weaknesses and talents. America is one huge melting pot of culture and race. Let's go ahead and repeat that again for the people in the back, a melting pot. America isn't a lunch tray with separate slots for each culture or race. We are all Americans.
If your family comes from Mexico, or Iran, or any other country, you are an American with Mexican heritage or an American with Iranian heritage. If you are looking for America to be either of those countries, then you are wrong and you need to go back, and before you can even say, "Well, none of us are even from here anyway," that's not what I said. If someone is willing to work hard, follow the law and live a great life, then by all means come to America and bring your culture and beliefs! If you're going to whine about how we're nothing like where you came from... there's a reason and it's usually the reason you left to come here anyway.
I'm not attempting to be insensitive, but somebody needs to say it. If you moved to France you would learn French, right? The same logic applies here. You are coming to America, knowing good and well we speak English.... why don't you try learning it? Many churches offer free English lessons.
People are saying that to call what happened in Orlando something other than a hate crime is to belittle it and honestly it's the other way around. On my newsfeed I see all the time: "stop labeling us. We're just like you. We want to be accepted by you." Except for right now? Here we are with open arms (it's sad that it took a tragedy for many to do so) and now it's not a good time for you? Orlando was a hate crime against America. If you were found out to be gay in a Muslim country you are punishable by death. Yes, many Americans are still coming to terms with the "gay lifestyle," but more of them are supportive than you think. In the media, more stories of discrimination get posted or published because people love drama. I'm not trying to say that people don't get discriminated, but it happens less than you'd think. The same people who protest against being treated differently... want to be treated differently.
At the end of the day, we need to stop letting this horrific event tear us apart. That's exactly what the bad guys want from us. This isn't about guns or sexuality, this is about America. Divided we fall, but together we stand. Let's be apart of the generation that just starts calling ourselves "Americans" and stop living in our subgroups. Until then, we stay divided. The future is in our hands.
