If you’re just like me, you view your Grandma as a second mother because in a way, she really is. Sometimes I like to claim I get more along with my Grandma than my own mom. (Sorry, Mommy! ILY). My cousins and I call my Grandma "Mami" meaning "Mom" in Spanish because to us, she’s our protector and the one that will always say yes to us when our own moms say no.
My Mami is the sweetest most down to earth women you could ever meet, but don’t get on her bad side because she will show you who’s in charge. I am very lucky to have someone like her because whether I’m having a good day or a bad day, she never fails to bring out a genuine smile out of me. She has a contagious laugh that will make you laugh even if the situation is not funny in any circumstance.
My Mami will be able to give you advice with any problem you are having because chances are she has gone through it and her wise years have taught her a lot. Every time my Mami gives me advice or tells me a learning lesson, it's as if she’s telling me a story that happened in a book or a the plot of an old fashioned movie because of the way she handled the issue. Grandmas are really living books of wisdom. Its pretty cool knowing that everything my mom basically knows today is because of my Mami so knowing she passing those great stories down to me make me feel like I’m diving deep into her book of wisdom.
Grandmas also rock because they give the best hugs ever! I’m talking about those tight, loving, motherly hugs that only grandmas can really give. If your Grandma is anything like mine then she is way shorter than you and you really have to bend down and squeeze her tight, but those hugs are really the best. Also, I feel like every single Grandma is the BEST COOK EVER. I mean from the baking, to the dinner, to the breakfast to lunch, any time of the day a grandma will throw down in the kitchen and cook you a full five-star restaurant worthy meal. Grandmas don’t ever need to look at recipe books no matter how many different ones they might make a day because that’s just how awesome they are. You will never leave a dinner hungry after a Grandma cooks for you.
Grandmas will always spoil you no matter what. I’m not very fortunate to have a Grandma that lives close to me, but every time she comes into town she will always bring me a gift or calls me ahead of time to ask me what I want her to bring to me. She is so kind and sweet and always puts her grandkids in front of her own kids, sometimes I'll have a disagreement with my parents and she'll always be on my side, no matter how wrong or right I may be, just because she just wants to protect me. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always looked up to my sweet Mami and I’m so thankful to still have her here with me today. I know one day I will be able to pass down to my kids all the great adventures and wisdom she has told me about her life.
Last but not least Grandmas are always thinking about you, so don’t be so distant to them or push them away because when they are gone one day you will be losing someone as important as a mother figure. Grandmas always want nothing but the best for you. Every time they go out they, usually spill to their friends about how amazing you are, and you should never take a Grandma for granted.
