I’m the girl who remembers the day I met my forever friends. I’m the girl who considers the best day of her life that one day we all went to the beach on April 22, 2015 without a care in the world, right before exams my freshman year. I’m the girl who knows they love me for who I am, and knows they will always be there for me, even when I go a little loco.
But this article isn’t just about having good friends. This article is about thanking them. Thanking one in particular. One of my best friends is graduating this semester, and though he’s staying in Tampa after graduation, it’s still a big change. I knew we’d be friends forever since the day we met, and I’ve watched him grow and succeed over the past 2+ years. I know I’ll be at his wedding and I know he’ll be at mine. I know he’s going to be rich and successful, and I’ll be rich and successful, and we’ll be rich and successful best friends with cool cars and awesome boats and it’ll be awesome. (A girl can dream, right?)
Here’s to you, Bryan. Thank you for entering my life (along with the rest of our friend group) at a time when I needed people like you. Thank you for playing Super Smash Bros with me for nine hours straight...literally...and chowing down on Salsa Rico burritos like it was our job. Thank you to you, Alec, Mitch, and Tommy for letting me crash in the room last year when we got home too late and I didn’t want to walk back to my dorm. Thank you for taking care of me when I needed it. Thank you for working out with me, cooking with me, and watching Pokémon with me. Thank you for always being straight-up with me, never sugarcoating anything, and telling me what I need to hear even if it’s not always what I want to hear.
Thank you for being you. I know you already have a job, but I’m so proud of you for all you’ve accomplished this past year. I know your graduation plans ended up a little differently than intended, but I feel so grateful (maybe in a little bit of a selfish way) to have had you here with me for an extra year.
You changed my life, and I know you will continue to change it and make it better as the years go on. You’re a wildcard, and you’re my best friend.
