Goodbye, Odyssey

Goodbye, Odyssey
Courtney Hedger

Well, I knew the day I would say goodbye to Odyssey was going to eventually come. I just never knew when or why I would be leaving Odyssey, but today this is the last article I will be writing for this platform.

First off, I want to thank Odyssey for giving us a space where we could write about whatever was on our mind. Secondly, I want to thank both of the Editor in Chief’s I had the opportunity to work with. Without them, none of the articles would have been published. They play an essential part in our CSUN community and were beyond kind and helpful.

Now a big thank you to those who took the time to read my articles. Whether I was writing about immigration, an article dedicated to my family or just my own spin on a certain topic, someone always had something positive to say. No matter how busy or crammed my schedule was, the feedback I would receive truly motivated me to keep creating content.

The fact that someone can relate to your articles or that you could help them get through a similar situation you were facing is probably one of the most rewarding feelings you can have as a journalist.

Odyssey helped me grow as a writer and pushed me to always think of new ideas. Expressing myself out loud has always been easy, however, writing what’s on my mind is a whole different story and I believe I have improved that aspect of myself. Sometimes I honestly had no clue what to write about; most of the time my ideas would come to me in the middle of the night. I kid you not guys. I would grab my phone with the intention to just write my idea and next thing you know I had my first draft ready.

I have never considered myself to be the best writer or ever imagined I would be writing for a site; it just goes to show that you can accomplish whatever it is you want in life, no matter what you think of yourself.

Currently, I have the great opportunity to learn and expand in other fields through different platforms. One of those happens to be in my second language: Spanish. Additionally, I will also start writing the news for my university's radio. It’s a new exciting challenge and life is about taking risks, accepting change and getting out of your own comfort zone. If one is not willing to take those steps, then they will never grow.

I promise this won’t be the last time you will read or hear from me. Journalism fills my heart with excitement and nothing can make me happier than the career I'm slowly, but surely embarking.

I'll always remember Odyssey, and wish nothing but the best to our CSUN community and I hope it will coutinue to grow!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
