Goodbye to High Point University

There are definitely some things we'll miss about the bubble.

Goodbye to High Point University

Graduation is right around the corner (next weekend to be more specific) and it's starting to hit us seniors that the day is finally arriving. Our campus is known for a lot of things such as the ice-cream truck, movie theater, arcade, and steakhouse but there is a lot more than we will miss, some more than others. Class of 2016 should be able to relate to this, as well as classes that have graduated before us.

1. Goodbye steakhouse

Since I already mentioned it above, I may as well go into a little more detail. It it 100% the best part of our meal plan. Who wouldn't miss getting a cultural appetizer to start, bread, another appetizer of your choice, an entree, and a dessert for free once a week? I'll miss my weekly caesar, filet, and brownie. Hopefully we all learned and remember some of the dinner etiquette they taught us for the future.

2. Goodbye, beautiful housing.

There is no denying that we have some of the best housing in the country. For the most part, all of our housing is brand new, fully furnished, and either right in front of or a minute walk away from a pool, gym, and studying center. It's going to be hard to adjust to living to an apartment that doesn't match up to the living standards we are use to.

3. Goodbye, security.

Thank you for always letting me into my house when I forgot my key and for always waving to me when I pulled onto campus. But we all would've liked to see you a little less at our parties and at our cars giving us parking tickets.

4. Goodbye, BBJ's.

Wednesday nights are by far the best nights at HPU. BBJ's is a black hole where we've all spent too much money, gotten too drunk, and broken a full bottle by dropping it on the floor right after we pay for it. Thanks for always playing great throwbacks such as "All Star" and "All the Small Things." Only thing I'm mad at about BBJ's is that I expect every bar I go to now to have $2 beers.

5. Goodbye, President Nido Qubein.

The most legendary man at our school and one of the best pubic speakers in the world. You have to admit that you'll miss seeing him around campus whether he's driving around in his whip, passing out huge Hershey bars for Valentine's Day or Halloween, riding a bike in one of his expensive suits, or just walking around waving to everyone. (President Qubein if you ever see this, I'm sorry for always looking like I just rolled out of bed every time you saw me.)

6. Goodbye, Blue Rock.

There is nothing I'll miss more about the town of High Point than my favorite pizza place in the world. Try to get it as many times as you can before you graduate. But if you're going to New York or Italy after graduation, then you should be able to manage without having this down the street.

7. Goodbye, professors.

Contrary to the popular belief, we do go to school at HPU. There are some professors that made your life a living hell, but there were some others that actually were great mentors and you learned a lot from. (Shout out to Professor Moser and Professor Quinn for being the best/coolest/entertaining professors I've learned from.)

8. Goodbye, free gym membership/work out classes.

Not all college students can say that they get this perk. Whether or not you go to the gym, it's nice knowing you can go for free to any of the 4 gyms we have, just on the main campus. Also if you went to any of the work out classes taught by the students, you'll both love and hate that you can't go to them for free anymore. Thank you, Errin Soares, for kicking my butt in your awesome spin and total sculpt classes.

9. Goodbye, Liberty.

I can't imagine a single senior isn't going to miss Liberty. This is the by far the most popular place to drink. We will all miss its beers, food (mainly the ribs), half-off wine night, trivia, and live music once we part ways in less than a couple weeks.

10. Goodbye, Christmas decorations.

Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, you will miss the extravagant decorations they put all around campus. From huge Christmas trees, to insanely tall nutcrackers, to carriage rides, HPU goes all out for the holidays.

11. Goodbye, pools.

We're all going to miss having pools every 300 feet on campus. There is nothing better than getting out of class and going to the pool (that always seems to be bath water) and hanging there for hours until you actually have to be productive.

12. Goodbye, furniture market.

Thanks for always giving us students the easiest jobs for a few days or a week and giving us the chance to have enough money to get us through the semester.

13. Goodbye, organizations.

A lot of students are either involved with Greek Life, on a sports team, or part of a club or another organization on campus. We will definitely miss being involved with this and the friends we have made from it. But from us in Greek Life, we won't miss paying dues.

14. Goodbye, Deck.

I know my friends and I aren't going to be the only ones who miss this place. It is a little outside of High Point, but hearing "The Deck is a thing tonight" is definitely one of the more exciting things to happen on a weekend. Going to miss those live bands for sure.

15. Goodbye, nice cars.

As much as my Honda Civic and I are envious, we will miss walking by the G-Wagons, Porsches, Maseratis, and the countless BMW's students have on this campus. Sadly enough, there's even an Instagram made for the cars here at HPU.

16. Goodbye, friends.

Obviously I have to mention the friends that we will be leaving. It's going to be hard to adjust not being able to walk to all of your friends house whenever we want to. It's going to be weird that we won't know if and when we will see everyone we've become close to over the past few years. But we all have memories and friendships that we will miss and hopefully continue to have once we graduate from the bubble. Until Alumni weekend, Class of 2016.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
