It's coming to that point in the semester where you have start making plans to leave school and say goodbye to your freshman year of college. You have final exams coming up, you're reregistering for fall classes, figuring out your living arrangements, and ultimately saying goodbye to arguably one of the best years of your life. You might've hated it, you might've loved it but you learned a lot this year and you wouldn't want to trade that for the world. It's no easy task but it's time to say goodbye to your first year of college.
You have to say goodbye to all the friends that you've met who you feel like you can't live without. It's going to be hard not seeing them everyday when you're so accustomed to being around them constantly. They have become your home away from home and your adoptive family. You've already made plans to visit ver the summer because you know you'll miss them too much.
You have to say goodbye to your new found freedom and independence. No more eating whatever you want, whenever you want in the dining halls. No more skipping class to go on an adventure with your friends. No more coming and going as you please. This isn't a bad thing for everyone, but guaranteed you'll miss it freedom when you get home for the summer and realize you have to answer to your parents again.
There are some things though that you will not miss about freshman year. You won't miss those 8ams you never bothered to go to. You won't miss living in a dorm with communal bathrooms and extremely loud neighbors. You won't miss sharing a room with someone and seeing them every single day. And you certainly won't miss the small fish in a big pond.
After this year is over, you'll finally be closer to never taking a general education class ever again. You're one step closer to taking courses that actually interest you. No more learning about generalized English or Science or Math that we'll never use in our careers. You can finally take that random class about vampires or wedding planning just for the fun of it. Learning will actually become fun again and you can't wait.
As your packing up your dorm room and pulling those last all nighters to study for your finals, think about all that has happened this past year. It could've been the best year of your life or the worst year of your life. But what counts in the end is how you use what you learned that year to change and grow. You've learned a lot about yourself and who you want to be. Now take all of that and go be that person.
