Goodbye For Now, Delaware

Goodbye For Now, Delaware

As I wrap up my junior year of college, I cannot help but feel sentimental and emotional, and all that good stuff. At this point, I'm 75 percent done with my college career, and as I watch my senior friends begin to leave it's finally hitting me how far we've progressed.

The first day of freshman year is a now distant memory, when I was ten pounds lighter and about a hundred times more awkward. The first day of sophomore year is equally long-gone, when I thought I was the coolest kid on this campus, all because of my luxurious Courtyards apartment.

It's been a rocky journey, to say the least, as reality and maturity both fight to set in. I think the problem is that sometimes, everything feels just a bit too repetitive. You go to class, you (don't actually) go to the gym, you make questionable decisions on North Chapel or Cleveland, or wherever, and then the cycle repeats.

As I finish my third year at Delaware, I realize, now more than ever, the importance of what I've learned and done here. It's the friendships I've made that make college what it is. I still live with my freshman floor kiddos and I consider them family, now. The people I've met have made every good and bad moment exactly what they are. I wouldn't trade that.

I don't think we should ever take for granted what we have here. We really are so lucky! We all live together in this strange little Delaware bubble, so we might as well embrace each other and just love it. If I've learned anything, it is to drop the labels, drop the negativity, and just drop it on the dance floor. Something like that.

As my junior year of college ends, and I cry for the thousandth time this week that I'm still not 21, I'd like to thank everyone I've met for helping me discover who I am, and who I'm really not.

No need to enter the summer of dreams (chock full of unpaid internships and minimum wage jobs) with anything other than great memories and a countdown to a senior year spent at Grottos.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
