I was hiking through the wet grass for about half a mile to reach the location for our video shoot when I realized that I would totally do almost anything for a good story. Even my soaking wet feet weren't bothering me as we were working.
A good story can make a journalism career and it could give me the opportunity to connect with some amazing people. Plus, I'm here for the adventure; I'm always down for spontaneous activities, which is basically journalism.
It was a really beautiful day in February and my two group members and I were dropped off in, what felt like, the middle of absolute nowhere. None of us really knew where we were and we cannot see any people around us. At this point, we were low-key panicking as I call the project manager and our other contacts. Finally, we see a white truck drive up towards us and a lovely guy named Chris who was more than willing to help us find the crew.
It was such a beautiful walk through land I probably never would have explored without this assignment. It helped get me out of my comfort zone and made me realize that I really am willing to do whatever it takes to get a good story. I take my work very seriously, but I'm still down to roll with the spontaneity of working with other people.
Of course, my free-spirited nature of going with the flow in my journalistic pursuits has definitely landed me in some tough situations before. However, even these tough situations still add layers to my story and make the experience more memorable. My goal is to create the best content I possibly can and going with the flow in possibly crazy situations is one of the best ways to do that.
