Before You Write Off 2016...

Some good things did happen

Before You Write Off 2016...

2016 was quite an interesting year. A lot of weird things happened: Donald Trump, a business man, was elected as the U.S. president and “Damn Daniel” made it huge. And of course like every year, a lot of bad stuff happened. It seemed like we lost every notable, game changing celebrity from Prince to Carrie Fisher, Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti and devastated the country once again, and the LGBTQ community never felt more victimized after the Orlando massacre.

However, in times like these we need to focus on the positive. And believe it or not, quite a few good things happened in 2016.

  • First and foremost, Leonardo DiCaprio won the Oscar! If that doesn’t make you pee with excitement, then I don’t know what will.
  • A woman almost won the presidential election. Like her or not, that is a huge step for womankind.
  • Bob Dylan won the Nobel Peace Prize for literature. Bet you didn’t know that.
  • The Chicago Cubs won the world series after 108 years.
  • Liberia was officially cleared of Ebola.
  • World hunger was at its lowest.
  • Manatees (among many other species) were taken off the endangered list.
  • Sea World agreed to stop breeding Killer Whales.
  • Harriet Tubman was announced as the new face of the $20 bill.
  • Four more states legalized medical marijuana.
  • Covergirl introduced their first Coverboy and he is prettier than me.
  • Simone Manuel became the first black woman to take gold in an individual swimming event.
  • There’s a new Harry Potter book and movie.
  • There’s a new Star Wars movie.
  • We finally got to see Finding Dory after several years of anticipation.
  • Also Zootopia allowed children to see the problems associated with racism in a child friendly way.
  • The Joe Biden and Obama memes became a thing and they are hilarious.
  • After 5 years, NASA’s spacecraft Juno finally entered Jupiter’s orbit.
  • The gene that is linked to ALS was discovered.
  • And finally more puppies were born. They’re all adorable.

Of course more than just 20 great things happened, but this article would drag on if I listed them all. So every time we remember 2016, we need to focus on the good.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
