Spoilers! Just in case you didn't know.
So whether you read the books or watch the tv show, everyone who is caught up can agree that the season six finale of "Game of Thrones" was absolutely everything anyone could want out of a finale. It cleared up a 20-year-old theory, sealed the fate of a few characters and finally had some payoff for quite a few storylines. Here's the good, the bad and the ugly of the episode.
The Good:
1. Jon Targaryen
Since "A Song of Ice and Fire's" first book, A "Game of Thrones," was published, readers questioned Jon Snow's lineage. The noble Ned Stark was always that, noble and honest. How the hell did such a great guy father a bastard? Finally we have an answer - it was a great reveal, but it could have been done better.
2. Arya Cuts Another Name Out of Her List
In a terribly ironic way, Arya gets her revenge with the Freys by slitting Walder Frey's throat. This happened after she fed him a pie with his sons in it — pretty straight to the point. She was disguised as the girl that smiled at Jaime at the feast as well, which was a pretty interesting twist that I sure as hell did not see coming. Speeding up her timeline made sense as I think we will see a Stark reunion now that all of them are gathering closer in Westeros.
The Red Wedding involved deaths by Robb shot by arrows, Catelyn's throat slitting and Talisa stabbed in the stomach. Tywin was killed by arrows, Roose Bolton was stabbed in the stomach and now Arya killed Frey like he killed her mother and completed the trifecta of revenge.
3. Daenerys Motherf*cking Targaryen fleet of Badassery
Ending on this scene was pretty crucial. The ironborn, the dothraki, the unsullied and the Dornish and Tyrell armies all in one scene that makes you question how long are they just going to stand there and stare forward. Finally, seeing Daenerys in Westeros will hopefully mean new alliances are formed. With Jon being revealed as a Targaryen, there could be something between him and Daenerys!
4. Olenna Tyrell Slays The Sand Snakes
Fan outcry pretty much sealed Dorne's fate for the show. After the terrible fight scenes and awfully vapid dialogue, the show creators axed Dorne for most of the season pretty early with the Sand Snakes taking over and leaving it at that. Seeing Olenna whip the Sand Snakes within a minute was really rewarding and to the point. Tying them all together as allies against Cersei was rewarding in the end.
5. Lyanna Mormont
This 10-year-old actress is everything I wanted out of Jon's King of the North appointment. The first scene of her giving Jon 62 good men to fight for him was fantastic and the scene with just her scowl to Ramsey was equally fantastic. In the scene with Jon shielding himself from Ramsey's arrows, he is using a Mormont shield — one of those 62 good men made it in the gates.
This little girl made the North remember, which led to such a great scene where people believed in Jon, just like being appointed Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
6. Cersei "The Mad Queen" Lannister
The intro for the episode was very suspenseful. Music linking the scenes together and building the suspense for the viewer with a building crescendo that left King's Landing with a bang. Literally. It was rewarding to see the High Sparrow eat his own words but goodbye Margaery Tyrell, you were too smart to be a part of his death.
Tommen's death was beautifully framed. From the window scene to the predictable end and showing Cersei's fall from grace (which has only been happening since episode one). The whole storyline was magnificent.
The Bad:
7. The Tower of Joy could have been better.
Jon Snow's lineage lead up left viewers incredibly vague details. A lot of show viewers don't know the implications that Jon is a Targaryen — for what it's worth, the show hasn't shown his father but has mentioned him in season one, years ago. The simple fact is Rhaegar Targaryen took Lyanna Stark and had Jon Snow, they even hushed Lyanna's whisper to Ned for no reason. Just say it already!
8. Littlefinger
I swear to God if Littlefinger stabs Sansa in the back, I won't be happy. The way he stared down Sansa in the King of the North scene was unsettling. Also him confessing he wants the Iron Throne? Have yet to see him hold a position of power, so far he has only worked within politics and sly dealings.
The Ugly:
9. Sir Gregor Clegane — Why?
Let's be real, he could have kept the helmet on. Cersei torturing Septa Unella was a bit much, waterboarding with wine that was perfectly good. The implications of what the Mountain was about to do was a bit disturbing and I'm glad they left it at that.
I love reading more and more into "A Song of Ice and Fire," although admittedly I haven't read the books because I'm far too interested into reading what other people know.
What do you think will happen in season seven?
