How The "Golden Girls" Represents Your Friend Group

How The "Golden Girls" Represents Your Friend Group

Every weekend morning, I get annoyed as I watch the "Golden Girls" come on the Hallmark channel, when all I really want to watch is "I Love Lucy" or "The Middle." As the beginning lines of "Thank You For Being A Friend" start to play, I hastily find the remote to change the channel so I can avoid a half hour of menopausal debauchery. Then, I ultimately discover there isn't anything else on TV on a Sunday morning and return to the Hallmark channel to watch the "Golden Girls," and I usually find myself laughing at the four women experiencing their golden years together.

Despite my utter aggravation on admitting I watch the "Golden Girls" sometimes, I think I find myself laughing at the show because these four women encompass the qualities of any friend group, young or old. You probably have your own Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia amongst your friends (and you're probably like one of these characters yourself) and this is what makes the show lol-worthy sometimes. Don't know who's who in your friend group? Let's figure it out together.

Dorothy Zbornak

"Where are you going?" "To get ice cream or commit a felony, I'll decide in the car."

As the Dorothy in the group, you find yourself responsible for the rest of the groups nonsense, and often offer words of sarcasm (although it sometimes goes over your friends heads). You sometimes struggle romantically compared to your friends, and maybe you have a few self esteem issues, but you're always loyal to the people that you care about. The Dorothy of a group tends to be the bookworm and always figures out her problems logically. You also enjoy long draped clothes. Truthfully, you may not want to admit you're the Dorothy, but someone has to be the Dorothy, and it could be you.

Blanche Devereaux

"Isn't amazing how I can feel so bad and still look so good?"

The Blanche of your group is not to be confused with being promiscuous. She is a woman who gets what she wants in life. As the Blanche of your group, you tend to be successful with the men, but being such a classy lady like yourself, why wouldn't you be? You're a confident woman who draws the center of attention (and if you don't draw in the attention, you demand it). If you're the Blanche of your group, you consider your charm and ability to pull in the men one of your finest accomplishments.

Rose Nylund

"It's like life is a giant weenie roast and I'm the biggest weenie!"

Everybody loves the Rose of the group, with her sweet demeanor, you're honest and trustworthy towards everyone. You love to recount your childhood memories, that are often outlandish and don't make sense to most people, but your cheery personality makes up for it. Your enjoy the simple things in life and you're the quirky friend of the group.

Sophia Petrillo

"When I turn my hearing aid up to ten, I can hear a canary break wind"

You're the mom of the group and you always have a story to tell and lesson to teach to all the immature ones in the group. Sophia has a little bit of sass to her, but she cares about the people that are close to her. Sometimes your friends don't take you seriously because you're the oldest and a bit confused sometimes, but your group would be lost without a Sophia.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
