As Derek, Kevin, and I grew older and started approaching the end of our high school careers, it seemed like the only question we were ever asked was, “Are you guys going to the same school?” We never had an actual answer back then, we’d just say “we’ll see” or “we don’t know what will happen.” Since my number one school was in Queens, and my brothers’ number one school was about two hours away, it started to look like we weren’t going to be going to college together.
Back when we were still making our decisions we imagined meeting up in New York City to spend the day together each time we were missing each other. When reality set in and we realized how much money our top schools were going to cost, we started reconsidering other schools. I had applied to University of Hartford and got a great financial aid package. I finally took the time to visit, and absolutely loved the campus. My parents practically forced Derek and Kevin to apply to University of Hartford also, and we went on another tour for them to see the campus. The boys both loved the campus, and got a great financial aid package.
The likelihood of the three of us going to the same college was starting to increase. I had thought that I didn’t want to go to the same school as them, wanting to do something by myself for once. When Derek and Kevin finally decided they were going to go to University of Hartford also, I couldn’t help feeling the excitement of starting this new chapter of my life with the two of them by my side.
Being in college together has only brought us closer. We live in the same building, two floors away from each other, which I’m so thankful for. Whenever I need a break or some peace and quiet I can just walk down the two flights of stairs to their room, relax, and let my brothers cheer me up. I know that if I ever need someone to eat lunch with, at least one of my brothers will be willing to come with me. Derek, Kevin, and I see each other almost every day, and it has been so helpful going through the transition to college together.
I couldn’t have imagined ending up at the same college as my brothers, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Going to school together has been one of the best things to happen and I can’t wait to see where else the future will take us.
