Freshmen this is for you. You are probably going insane putting everything in boxes. Take my advice: if you haven't used it in the last six months, you won't need it. Nor do you need to pack every single shirt you own.
Here are my must have items for college:
1. A toothbrush cover.
2. A foam mattress pad. It will make sleeping a LOT easier.
3. Bed stilts. They increase storage under your bed. Space will be minimum.
4. A fan to helps keep you cool and circulate the air in your room.
5. Disinfecting wipes to keep your room clean when floor-mates start to get sick.
6. Febreze... Just to keep the room smelling nice.
7. Personal pictures and art to help make your dorm feel like home.
Now I'm sure you are still convinced that you need your entire room when you move to college. That is the same mistake most freshman make. Your parents will end up taking a good chunk back home.... Why? You will be sharing a small space with one or more people. The more stuff you have, the more clutter you'll end up with. Pack only what you need. It's ok to pack one ore two things you know you wont necessarily need but just feel comfortable having around. This may include a handmade quilt, stuffed animal, specific pillow or just something that's special.
Think about what you pack make sure to check with roomies (so you don't end up with two coffee makers).
