If you went to the same school with the same students from kindergarten through eighth grade, there is a good chance you went to a Catholic School. There are a lot of experiences we have that are different from those in traditional public schools. It is a very tight knit and supportive community that does things a little differently than most schools.
1. Catholic Schools Week
Back in the day, this was our spirit week. All week long we would play games and have fun activities. We would dress wild and funny and win prizes. We would also get to have picnics and play fun games.
2. Old Murals
There is bound to be some old art or murals around the school. In most cases, they have all been there for as long as we can remember. (There are some at my old school that have been up for seventeen years.) No one has even been seen painting the walls, but they're absolutely covered.
3. Same Teachers
There isn't a lot of teacher turnover. The same people who taught you taught your older siblings, and on very rare occasion even taught your parents! They are the most kind and thoughtful teachers you have ever had, and it warms your heart to see that they are still teaching in the same classrooms in the same school.
4. Low Enrollment
It's no secret that Catholic schools have some of the lowest enrollment you will see. This isn't necessarily a bad thing! Each student can easily attain one on one time with a teacher almost whenever they need it. It is a very tight knit community where everyone is very involved.
5. Students
You find yourself surrounded by the same 30 or 40 kids for nine or ten years. Even if you are not close friends with everyone, you know their birthday, middle name, siblings, and parents' names. There's just no avoiding it.
