When Owen and I were about six months away from getting married, we knew we had to start thinking about where we wanted to live. We had to start thinking about furniture, appliances, bills, etc.
To sum it up: We had A LOT to figure out.
It started by a contact that my mom received from a friend at work. She knew someone who was looking for someone to rent a rental property.
It was a house, first of all, and let me tell you how excited I was about that. I was thrilled, over the moon, I couldn't wait, and thought that this was absolutely the place we would end up, but I hadn't even seen the place yet.
The poor house needed some work. Okay, a lot of work. It needed to be gutted: new carpet, new bathroom, a total makeover.
I was crushed, not to mention freaked out. Even though we were four months away from needing a place of our own, I thought we were doomed.
That's when we ran into a family friend whose husband had just passed away. She had a double available and once Owen and I went through it, we knew it was the right place.
After that, things fell into our lap, figuratively and literally.
A free dresser from a friend, a bed frame and desk from his parents, couch from my parents, dining room set, coffee tables, hutch, tables, etc. The list goes on and on.
Owen said yesterday that when he walks around our house he is amazed at where our "things" came from. Each one tells a story and each one was a gift from someone very important to us.
It is truly amazing how God works. Just as you begin to worry about one thing, He plops it down in front of you and it's on to the next thing.
Couch? Got it. Mattress? Found one. Washer, dryer? Right here.
Everything I could have ever worried about was taken care of one way or the other. It is astonishing to look back over the journey to fill our house, find a house, and see how everything, literally everything, fell into place.
God blessed me with a new job today, which I had been thinking (worrying) about for some time. Not that I'm not happy with the job I have now, it was just time to move on to something new, something that was more geared toward a possible career path for me.
What an amazing God we have! What an amazing God we have even when we worry and don't put our trust in Him fully. No matter where you are or who you are, He guides your steps and knows exactly what needs to be done.
That's a refreshing thing to know and something I think we need to repeat to ourselves more often.
God is good, God provides, God plans, God protects, God loves you.
