7 Reasons To Go Greek At College Of Charleston

Joining a sorority was probably the best decision I have ever made. I whole heartily believe that the girls I have met since joining have made my college experience ten times better than what it would’ve been without them. I recommend going Greek at CofC because of these reasons.

1. You will be able to compete in Pep Supper

Pep Supper is an annual event here at CofC where fraternities and sororities raise canned goods for the Lowcountry Foodbank. Along with raising canned food there is a banner competition and a dance competition that everyone competes in.

2. You get lifelong sisters

Since CofC is a smaller school, each organization is smaller than what you would be a part of at a bigger school. This allows you to get to know each one of your sisters on a more personal level. These girls will be the sisters you wished you had growing up, and now you have 140+.

3. #GreekConnected

This is one thing I like about CofC, all of the sororities and fraternities support each other. Whether it’s each other’s philanthropies or events they are hosting on campus. We love to support each other.

4. You’ll always have some event that you can go to

Mixers, date parties, blood drives, tabling, Greek week games, or movie nights. There is always some sort of Greek event on campus.

5. You meet all sorts of people

During Panhellenic recruitment, you get what is called a Phi Chi group. Within these groups you will meet girls with all different personalities and styles. After recruitment is over, you will still have relationships with these girls and make friends with girls in their sororities as well.

6. Helps you adjust to moving into college

At College of Charleston, recruitment begins before school officially starts. Therefore, you get to move into your dorm early. This gives you a week to adjust to the dorm life with the girls who are also going through recruitment. Having these girls around you allow you to make friendships and have someone by your side during the stress of recruitment week.

7. Your sisters are always there for you

Your sisters are always down to go on a cookout run at midnight or cut class to go to the beach (don’t do this too often), or just talk to you.

I will always recommend girls (and guys for that matter) to join Greek Life because of all the benefits I have received through my first year at the college. I love having sisters that surround and support me constantly. They have and will always push me to be the best possible person. Registration for Panhellenic recruitment at CofC is now open so go register now and go Greek so you can receive these benefits and make your first year of college great!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
