A Glimpse Of New York

"I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps.."

From the pizza and bagels to the scenery, there is no place like New York.

I have lived in New York my whole life. Born in Queens, raised in Long Island and currently living in Manhattan, I have seen a lot of New York in my 18 years of life. Of course, being from Long Island, my mentality is that everything north of NYC is upstate. (Yes, you too Westchester.)

But we’re talking about New York City here. The songs you hear about this city don’t compare to actually stepping foot on the concrete. There is something about New York air that is different from anywhere else. The smell of roasted pecans along with hot, fresh pretzels makes your mouth water as you walk out of Penn Station. (Don’t forget the lovely sewer smell too!)

As you walk towards Times Square, the billboards catch your eye and the crowds of people keep passing. Walking through Times Square is something everyone should experience in their lifetime. From the street performers to the different tourist attractions, there is so much to do that you have to make a couple of trips to get it all done!

Besides Times Square, there are other places such as Bryant Park and Central Park along with so many beautiful museums! The trails and trees in Central Park throughout every season are an absolute must see. But if you’re not up for a morning jog, you can go to Bryant Park during the holidays and look through all of the fun and tasty holiday shops that will get you dipping into your wallet.

If you are looking to freshen up your Instagram, take some pictures of the Empire State Building, the Freedom Tower or St. Patrick’s Cathedral. You won’t even need a filter with these gorgeous buildings and their architecture.

Of course there is the Upper East and West sides, SoHo, Battery Park, the World Trade Center, Chelsea and so many more parts of New York that I could be here for hours describing each one. So you will just have to see them for yourself!

Living in this amazing city has really brought me closer to it and everything it has to offer. I am so proud to be a New Yorker and to call this beautiful city, home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
