To the Girls in my College Dorm Wing,
Some of you I’ve talked to everyday, some of you I’ve talked to every once in a while, and some of you I’ve said a mere hello to. But I can’t imagine living in a different wing. I consider all 30 of you a second family and even though I am 188 miles away from home, you all make me feel at home.
I talk to other girls on campus and they say that nobody in their hall talks to each other and they have their doors shut all the time. We are the complete opposite. Some of the best memories I’ve made during this first semester of college have been made with all of you. I’ll never forget the hallway dance party that ranged from dancing to rap to Disney soundtracks, the homework parties in the hallway, the screaming back and forth to each other’s rooms, the trip to the apple orchard, the nights spent watching the O.C., and the countless other memories.
The idea of having to make new friends in college was one of my biggest fears , but also one of the things I was most excited for. Now, I can’t even figure out why I was worried about having friends in the first place because I am surrounded by so many incredible people every day. It makes me so happy that when you walk down our wing, people yell hello and talk to you. We have a sense of bond that you do not find too often.
You hear so many horror stories about roommates and about living in the dorms during college. I will admit, I was worried that being surrounded by so many girls all the time would be annoying, but it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have gotten to meet all of you and create so many friendships that I hope last a lifetime. You all truly bring so much joy and laughter to my life. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I know I can come back to our hall and find someone to cheer me up with a joke or a stupid story.
I still remember the first time I met all of you. Whether it was you introducing yourself while I was moving in, playing the icebreaker game about what we were all bringing to the picnic, watching Pitch Perfect with you on the first night, or seeing you around campus and saying hello. All of you have made such an impact on my life and I truly can’t remember what life was like before I had 30 girls as my neighbors.
Whether it’s a simple compliment in the bathroom, a “hey, how’s it going” as you pass by an opened door, small talk while walking to our rooms, or late night girl talk, our wing is truly a family.
Thank you all for being my home away from home.
