Channeling Your Inner #GIRLBOSS, Nightly Routine

A #GIRLBOSS knows that with a productive daily routine she's going to need a relaxing, replenishing nightly routine to prepare herself for the next morning.

I've struggled to perfect my nightly routine since my sophomore year of high school (!!!) and things only got worse when I became a full-time college student. I was consistently awake endless hours of the night watching Netflix, sleeping in my makeup 3-4 days per week (CRINGE!), and feeling exhausted every single morning.

But, I finally solidified my nightly routine and ladies, I FEEL SO GOOD! I've decided to share some of my secrets and hopefully help you girlies improve your nightly routine as well! Enjoy!

  • Arrival.

I love to play chill, relaxing music and light every single one of my candles whenever I get home from work/school/whatever.

I actually have a playlist called "Calm & Simple" that I will link below. I'm in love with it and I listen to it every day while starting my nightly routine.

  • Cleaning your room.

If you claim you don't throw fifteen different shirts, your makeup brushes, and every bottle of perfume you own around your bedroom while you're getting ready, I don't believe you for a second.

I think us girls can all agree that getting ready each morning is MESSY.

Cleaning isn't always ideal but I'm in love with the feeling of having a nice, organized space to relax in.

I promise you'll thank me later!

  • Make dinner (or grab something out).

I've fallen in love with creating healthy, wholesome dinners for myself while I've been home for the holidays.

Some of my favorite dinners include cheese tortellini with steamed broccoli, grilled chicken with brown rice & veggies, avocado toast, and lately I've been loving shrimp tacos (thank you, Kylie Jenner).

However, I typically grab food from one of the dining halls or somewhere nearby while I'm at school because I don't have a kitchen (LOL).

  • Bath/Shower.

Although I don't have access to a bathtub while at school, I love to pamper myself while I'm at home!

I always sprinkle some Himalayan/Epsom salt in my bath before running the water. I'll also add some bubbles and maybe a bath bomb to add an extra touch of glamour.

If you're going to do a face mask, now is the time! It's super convenient because you're already in the bathtub and washing your mask off over the sink is just messy.

Next, I'll light some candles and watch some Netflix. I'll also dim the lights and turn on the bathtub jets to relax my muscles from an exhausting day.

  • Skincare routine.

I like to take my makeup off before my bath with the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Facial Cleansing Wipes.

Then, I'll go in with my Burt's Bees Brightening Daily Facial Cleanser. I've also been loving the following products: Andalou Naturals Q10 Night Repair Cream, Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, Mario Badescu Buttermilk Moisturizer, and The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil.

I'll usually put lotion all over my body or use my favorite moisturizing body spray when I'm feeling lazy.

  • Hair routine.

Usually, I brush through my hair with my WetBrush and then spray some Argan Oil on the ends of my hair (away from the roots!!). It keeps my hair super soft and silky! I have naturally wavy/curly hair so I typically just let it air-dry but sometimes I'll blow-dry or braid it into two french braids.

  • Gratitude journal.

I know, I already talked about my beloved gratitude journal many times BUT it is seriously one of the greatest purchases I have ever made!

It has changed my perspective on life for the better and has shown me that even on terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days, there is always something to be thankful for! It could change your perspective as well, I'm sure of it!

I picked mine up for somewhere around ten dollars at Target and it's cutest little thing!

Who knew something so small could be so life-changing?

  • Reading.

I wasn't always big on reading before bedtime but lately, it's been my favorite part of my routine. I strive to read at least one chapter every night before falling asleep.

What am I reading?

I've completely fallen in love with these two books that I picked up within the last month:

First, "Loving Your Husband Before You Even Have One" by Kim Vollendorf.

Second, "You Are a Badass" by Jen Sincero.

Both are MUST READS!

  • Finally, Netflix.

Time to truly relax!

I like to get snuggled up with my heated blanket and laptop to binge watch my favorite Netflix shows before falling asleep.

I hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you have any blog requests on my Instagram (@skylarxwilliams)! Talk to you soon!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
