Hey girl, let's have a little chat.
You know what time of year it is? It's that time of the year where us single ladies are reminded of our loneliness. But, on top of it all, we have actually never had a real Valentine's Day with someone we love or even just someone we've been crushing on. So, I'm sure you wonder what it's like and trust me, I am wondering the same exact thing. I wonder what it's like to get all dressed up and excited to see which fancy restaurant my lovely boyfriend was taking me to.
Yes, I know that there are some people that absolutely despise the concept of Valentine's Day. But, most of those people have the luxury of just curling up next to their lover and turning on Netflix and calling it a night. Which is fine, that actually sounds like an amazing Valentine's Day treat. This day just creeps up on us single ladies always advertising wherever we walk the fact that we may actually be forever alone.
Yet, what if it doesn't have to be like that? What if we take this day as an opportunity to just relax and think about how simple it truly is to not have the burden of being in a relationship. What if we just go about our day as we normally do and not acknowledge all the PDA we're going to see on campus. And then after we go about our day ignoring the adorable couples, let's just bust open a bottle of wine and re-watch all the episodes of Shameless on Netflix. It seriously sounds like a solid plan, am I right?
I just remember for the longest time of having a love/hate relationship with Valentine's Day. Love because I am sure when the day comes when I finally have a man treat me the way I deserve to be treated, it's going to feel amazing being with him, and the hate comes in because I have yet to experience that. So yes, you and I may not have ever experienced a traditional Valentine's Day, but let's make the best out of the day.
Our day will come (I hope so because I am counting on it), but until then, let's enjoy the single life on a holiday for couples. Let's give love to ourselves; eat as much chocolate as we want and drink as much wine as we desire. So what if we don't get flowers and a teddy bear today? We can actually go out to the dollar store and treat ourselves to just that. It's going to be okay, I promise.
Cheers to never having the experience of an "authentic" Valentine's Day!
