To a girl, their hair is the ultimate accessory. A hairstyle can not only be a form of self-expression, but also a way of forming your identity. Basically a girl’s hair is very, very important to her. So when she decides to make that ultimate change for the first time, it can be a rollercoaster of an experience to say the least. I personally went through the same situation just a couple of days ago. Ever since I was a toddler, I had blonde hair, so deciding to go a shade darker was definitely the most rash and nerve-racking decision in my hair career. To help explain how extreme of a situation this is, here are a few thoughts and feelings that EVERY girl has when she dyes her hair for the first time.
1. You're SO ready for change.
By this point, you have already accepted that your old locks just aren’t going to do. In my case, fall was coming so I wanted to have darker hair to accommodate the season. Regardless of your reason, you’re definitely ready for something different in your life.
2. You get super pumped about this picture you found on Google, because you're convinced that this hairstyle is THE ONE FOR YOU.
Because not just ANY hairstyle will do, it has to be this exact color, cut and style.
3. Soon enough it’s the day of your appointment and you couldn’t be more excited.
New hair, new you, am I right?
4. You sit in the chair and look at yourself for the last time, a little twinge of guilt tugs at your heart.
5. They turn you away from the mirror and are now putting the finishing touches on your new do, and the anticipation is killing you.
6. Finally, they turn your chair around and it’s the longest second of your life.
7. You stare at the mirror because you have no idea who that is.
8. Is someone else sitting in this chair? Where did I go? WHO IS THAT!?
9. Then after some deductive reasoning, you realize that it’s you sitting in that chair, and shock inevitably follows.
10. You begin to wonder if you made a mistake, because you don’t even look the same...
Which is funny because isn’t that the point of changing your hair in the first place? Regardless, we seem to forget that in these moments.
11. You spend the car ride home unsure of your life-altering decision.
Okay, it may not be “life altering,” but it definitely feels that way.
12. You don't even know what to think anymore.
Does being a brunette mean that I can’t have as much fun? Do I have to love "Legally Blonde" if I have blonde hair? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!
13. After you stare at it for a couple more hours, you begin to realize that you actually like your hair and wonder why you freaked out in the first place.
14. Give it even more time, and by this point you LOVE your hair and can’t imagine why you’ve never changed it before.
15. You begin to feel on top of the world and the whole “new hair, new me” mantra is so strong that it almost becomes your Twitter bio
16. Lastly, your hair transformation isn’t complete without an Instagram post of your new do.
Because what’s the point of getting your hair done if no one can see it and tell you how gorgeous it is?
