We all know that behind what every girl says, there are multiple meanings. I'm a victim of this myself by saying these things, and I'm sure many of you girls are too. I'm not going to identify these as "basic" terms, because that word seems to be an insult nowadays. Instead, these are just a few terms that are a part of our girl language. At times it can get quite confusing, but that's what this article is here to help you with.
"Can you not?"
Usually when a girl says this, she's already in a bad mood and not having any of it. Whether it's because it was a long day or she is trying to mentally prepare for the upcoming week, this is a phrase you will probably hear. This is like saying "knock it off" or "please stop." However, just with more of an attitude.
"I'm so dead."
While obviously she is not dead, nor is she going to die any time soon, let me remind you that this is just an expression. The perfect saying for when you're utterly exhausted, hungover, or taking what seems like the hardest exam of your life. We've all been there.
"Same."
While this seems like an average, everyday word, to girls, it means something much different. It's used to relate to things, whether they are actually relevant or something funny. For example, say one of my friends trips and falls in a public place. I would say "same," since at the moment, I may be feeling the embarrassment she is feeling at the same time.
"I can't even."
It's Sunday, you have two exams this week, one quiz, and a paper due in a couple days. "I can't even" means that I'm swamped in work and don't think I'll make it to see sunlight the next morning.
"Are you serious?"
Obviously, we know you're serious. It's just to emphasize how shocked we are at what you just said. Kind of like, "I can't believe it."
"Literally."
This is another word to help emphasize what we're feeling. If I tell you about how late I was up studying, and you respond with "Wow, that's rough," my response may be "Literally." Kind of like, "Yeah, I know, right? It sucked."
"Whatever."
Usually used when a girl loses an argument and is trying to change the subject. "Whatever" is usually followed with "Anyway ..."
"OMG."
This one statement can really mean many things. Usually something along the lines of "Seriously?", "No way," and/or "I'm shocked." Obviously, all things along the lines of being surprised.
Unfortunately, us girls seem to have our own language these days. I've tried to capture and explain the ones that I use most frequently. Hopefully, these will help some of you out that are constantly left in the dark.
