Last week the world received some life changing news: the seven-season, timeless mother-daughter duo television series "Gilmore Girls," will begin production sometime next year on four 90-minute episodes (essentially a mini season) released exclusively on Netflix. For all the fans who cried over the cast reunion that occurred in June, this news is 1,000 times better. There's nothing in this world fans of a long-ended TV show want more than a revival, and us "Gilmore Girls" fans will finally have it! Here's everything you need to know about this magical "Gilmore Girls" revival.
The final season of the show ended in 2007. However, Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show's writer, did not actually write this final season due to a contract dispute with Warner Brothers. In interviews, she's released that the final season didn't end how she would have liked it to, and a lot of fans would agree. Don't get us wrong: the series ending was all fine and well, but it left us with so many burning questions about the futures of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Sherman-Palladino has stated that she actually had something else in mind for the shows series finale, specifically four words she wanted to be the final, concluding sentence of the series. Soon enough, we will know exactly what it is that she intended and the vision she had for the future of the "Gilmore Girls." These episodes will supposedly jump forward about eight years, picking up in real time and according to TVLine, each 90-minute episode will take place over a season of the calendar year. We the fans have so many questions that this revival will hopefully answer.
Here's what we (the true fans), are hoping to find out from this amazing revival.
1. What actually happened with Lorelai and Luke?
In the final episode we see Lorelai and Luke kiss after he throws Rory the most incredible and tear-jerking goodbye party, but what happens next? Did they ever end up getting married? Do they have kids? Or did they just have that one moment, knowing it would never truly work out between them after everything they've tried? We know Lorelai never moved on from Luke and we know Luke never truly moved on from Lorelai, but we don't know if Luke could ever get it together to fully commit.
2. Did Rory and Logan ever get back together?
Last we saw, Logan provided Rory with an ultimatum: either she accepted his marriage proposal or they break up for good. Rory chose not to accept and said goodbye to Logan. During the last episode they hadn't spoken since the rejected proposal, but was that really the end of their story? Or did they reconnect somewhere down the line?
3. What about Jess?
It was clear to everyone that Rory never really got over her relationship with bad boy Jess. While she may have loved both Logan and Dean, Jess was always there in the back of her mind. Since we left off with Rory a free and single woman off to ride the campaign trail, eight years later, could she be married to Jess?
4. Did Kirk ever get it together?
Not that this really makes a difference to the overall plot, but aren't you just a little curious to find out if Kirk ever moved out of his mother's house or got a real person job? Or if he's still just wandering around Stars Hallow being the town goofball? Really, we can't wait to see the status of all of the members of Stars Hallow that we've grown to know and love over the years!
5. What's the status of Luke's Diner?
Is he still grumpily owning his diner, serving the townspeople (and more importantly Lorelai) their coffee and pancakes? Or has something changed eight years later? And on the subject of Luke, what ever happened with his daughter, April?
6. How will the show deal with the death of Edward Herrmann a.k.a Richard Gilmore?
Since the actor who played the dashing Richard Gilmore passed away, how will the revival deal with this serious loss? Does Lorelai still attend Friday night dinners? What's it like now that it's only Emily and Lorelai, and they don't have Richard there to mediate the drama? Will the revival address the passing of Richard Gilmore and Emily still a widow or did she look for love again?
7. Where is Rory now?
The main thing we can't wait to find out is what ever became of Rory Gilmore? Is she married? Did she finally get her dream job as a reporter, or writing for the New York Times? Does she have children? Where does she lives? We have infinite, burning questions about what ever became of Rory Gilmore and this revival series is bound to answer at least a solid chunk of them!
