5 Things That Changed In Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life

After the four part miniseries of the Gilmore Girls revival premiered on Netflix, the story has finally come "full circle." The recurring theme seems to apply to many situations throughout the series that mirror back to the pilot and earlier seasons. There's been development and change, however, in many of the characters that haven't gone unnoticed.

1. Where's Sookie?

Most GG fans were aware of Melissa McCarthy's minor absence from A Year In The Life due to scheduling issues, although we were not sure how her character would reappear in the series. Who would've thought she'd leave best friend and coworker Lorelai and The Dragonfly Inn to pursue a career changing the future of agriculture? Luckily, she made a quick cameo in the inn with her infamous wedding cakes for Lorelai's special day. Let's be real, we wouldn't want a Sookie reunion any other way.

2. What happened to Rory's journalism career?

The seventh season ended with a potential, successful career for Rory. She accepted a dream gig with an online magazine, working with then-senator Barack Obama. Things were looking pretty well for her. Ten years later, however, she struggles to maintain even a steady and stable job. Even with a prestigious Yale degree, the only professional piece she has is her New Yorker article. What happened to the ambitious and driven Rory we came to know and love?

3. Emily did what?

Emily Gilmore evidently changed in the aftermath of Richard's death. She crafted an entire new lifestyle. Firstly, Emily's maid lasted for the whole year. She even allowed her family to stay in her home. For those who know the show, this comes as a shock since she is notorious for firing her maids and assistants weekly. Nevertheless, we see her stripped down in jeans and a tee shirt. If that doesn't surprise you, maybe her vulgar use of words to the once-beloved Daughters of the American Revolution group caught you off guard. She finally put her colossal Hartford home on the market and moved to Nantucket, where she puts her speech skills to good use as a tour guide. The widowed, and working Emily has changed, but for the better.

4. Once a Huntzberger, always a Huntzberger.

I guess we can say GG's seventh season was a tease. Logan had the determination to move away from his parent's overbearing pressure and ditched the family business. He left London to pursue a career in California. It seemed he matured and grew out of his playboy ways. However, A Year In The Life reverses the progress he's made. Logan's back in London, working in the family business, and engaged to a French heiress. Simultaneously, his ongoing affair with Rory is the tip of the iceberg. Sadly, we love his strikingly handsome and thrilling tactics anyway.

5. Lane has a father?

That's right. Our questions along the seasons have been answered. Mrs. Kim has always been present in Stars Hollow, but how about Lane's dad? The mysterious revelation has finally been made in the revival. We're introduced to Mr. Kim in the flesh for his five second cameo. It's about damn time!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
