The day has finally arrived! The creators of "Gilmore Girls" have officially announced the release date of the series' revival and I don't think I have been this excited for a premier since...well, ever. I don’t know about you, but when I was younger (and by younger I mean when I was in high school), I would come home everyday, take off my shoes, grab a snack and turn on the TV to watch reruns of "Gilmore Girls." Lorelai and Rory Gilmore were and still are my mother-daughter goals. Their witty, fast-paced conversations about school, boys, pop-culture and everything in between, accompanied by one too many cups of coffee and takeout is literally perfection.
For those of you who have been living under a rock since the first season aired in 2000, the show takes you on a journey with the Gilmore family as they endure normal everyday life in a small town. Before you roll your eyes and assume that the show is mundane and stupid, let me assure you the show not only has its fair share of drama, but it’s also absolutely hilarious.
The plot line goes something like this:
The main characters Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel (who I happen to share a birthday with), live in Stars Hollow, CT. Lorelai Gilmore was knocked up by her high school boyfriend Christopher at the age of 16. She is raising Rory on her own while working her way up at a local Inn. Rory is a 16 year old high school student who is very quiet, awkward and basically an academic prodigy. Of course, the show explores the challenges of family, friendship and romance as it follows the lives of both Rory and Lorelai. But, it also tackles a number of different social issues; including the divide between generations and social classes and the hardships that women face in their educations and the workforce.
Essentially what I am trying to say is the series has a perfect balance of drama, comedy and purpose. You feel a sense of connection to all of the characters and just about everyone can relate to the show.
Now, I could go on for hours describing the duo and all of the hilarious characters in the small town of Stars Hollow, but I'm not going to because my descriptions won’t be able to do the show any justice. So, I guess you’re just going to have to go watch the series from beginning to end (it’s all on Netflix) before November 25 because that’s when the revival is released!
The creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino directed a four part Netflix mini-series that depicts “A Year in the Life” of the Gilmore Girls. Each episode is 90 minutes long and are based in accordance with the four seasons. The best part about this is that most of the original cast will be featured in the episodes, including Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Keiko Agena, Milo Ventimiglia, Kelly Bishop and so many more! The revival will display the iconic mother-daughter duo all grown up and tackling all of the new issues that come along with being adults. There has not been a lot of information released in regards to exactly what will be in the episodes, but they did release a teaser for it (Click here to watch) that shows the Gilmore Girls, with cups of coffee and Pop-Tarts (of course), talking about Amy Schumer and John Oliver.
Everyone needs to go watch all seven seasons before the revival so you can fall in love with the Gilmores just like I have before November 25. Now, if you're anything like me and watch Netflix at an unhealthy rate, you have plenty of time to catch up and I highly suggest that you do so. I promise you won't be disappointed. I cannot wait for the release of the revival and I hope that other people share in my excitement. I am glad the creators have finally listened to the fan base and have made a continuation of the show (even though it is pretty short and condensed, but whatever, I'm not going to complain).
Now if we could only get the creators of "Friends" to do the same, then my life would really be perfect.
