10 Realistic Gifts Your College Student REALLY Wants This Christmas

As a college student, I've noticed that my gift choices have started transforming into something fun and potentially random to whatever is most practical and useful for life in a cramped dorm room. This year, I've decided to reflect on what college students find most useful, so take a look at this list when you start trying to brainstorm what to get your college student this Christmas!

1. A new plannerĀ

Erin Condren

I don't go anywhere without my daily/weekly planner. I write EVERYTHING down because I know I'll forget it otherwise. For your student, I would recommend the brand Bloom Daily Planners (on Amazon) or Erin Condren's LifePlanner!

2. Oil diffuser

Smelly roommate? Say no more! Your student will thank you for giving them a nice diffuser and some potent oils to drown out the stench!

3. Keurig or coffee mugs

If your student is anything like me, they basically live on caffeine. Consider splurging on them this year with a nice coffee maker or a new mug so they don't have to do dishes as often!

4. Fuzzy socks!

Dorm rooms are cold and drafty! Fuzzy socks definitely will make a long, freezing walk to class a little more pleasant!

5. Small appliances

Waffle makers, panini presses or even toaster ovens go a long way when your student is really tired of stale or cold dining hall food. Remember the most important thing to your student right now is probably food!

6. New laptop case/cover

Buy from Society6

This is a great gift that is both practical and stylish. Check out Society6 for a lot of different hand-designed cases that will be sure to make your student feel unique every time they pull their laptop out to take notes!

7. New pens or markers!!!

Never underestimate the power of a nice, high-quality pen to help your student memorize the notes they have to study before their upcoming exams!

8. A gift card

Gift cards are always a good option, especially to a store like Target or to a nice restaurant so they can treat themselves. Either way, letting your student buy what they really need is always really practical.

9. Their college's apparel

Buy from DuBois Book Store

This probably goes without saying, but your student will probably want plenty of their college gear to fit in on campus. When you come to pick them up and take them home, stop by the campus bookstore and pick them out a nice fuzzy sweatshirt or some warm sweatpants.

10. Self-care kit

Your student is probably way more stressed than they let on. Set them up with a lot of face masks, candles, chocolates and inspirational quotes so that they'll be prepared for the next wave of exams!

These are some of my favorite ideas for Christmas. But remember, if you still need help thinking of presents to buy, just ask!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
