Let's take a look at "Ghostbusters." I must apologize and say I have never actually seen "Ghostbusters," but I want to because hello Bill Murray. And I will before the new movie comes out, I promise. However, there is a new "Ghostbusters" movie coming out! This new "Ghostbusters" film will follow Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as they work to rid New York of ghosts. Pretty basic "Ghostbusters" plot line, at least from what I know about "Ghostbusters." The only real difference I can see is that instead of a group of men, it's a team of ladies. I actually finally saw the trailer for "Ghostbusters" this past weekend, and it looks like a great comedy film. I'm pretty excited for "Ghostbusters"! Unfortunately, meninists are not.
You've heard of feminists right? Well, just in case, a meninist, by definition of Urban Dictionary because I couldn't have said it better myself: "Meninism is a mockery of feminism and proves that we can't request equality without men making everything about themselves." Basically, a person who doesn't believe in equality. Ya, I said it. Shall we take a look at some YouTube comments from the trailer?
"Girls films are not funny. Please Hollywood... Give the "Ghostbusters" back!"
"Who thought it was a good idea to have females as the main characters?"
"I bet the feminist had to black mail Hollywood to make this movie."
"This HORRIBLE trailer just proves that women are too DUMB and UNFUNNY to compete against men: Manhood 101. c o m the truth HURTS"
"Lady-scientists? Isn't the ghost-busting concept imaginative enough?"
Yes, these are real comments posted on a real video from 2016. If they didn't make you angry, I think you need to go think about that.
A lot of people are stating that "Ghostbusters" is a classic! You can't fix the classics! You know what else is a remake of a classic? "Man of Steel" was a remake of the "Superman" movies. "The Planet of the Apes" are being remade, for the second time. "Jurassic World" was a remake of "Jurassic Park." "Indiana Jones" is being remade, and no one is getting upset about that. Why is that? Probably because "Man of Steel" still used "SuperMAN," "The Planet of the Apes" is, for one is about Apes, but also stars many male characters. "Jurassic World" starred Chris Pratt in the Jeff Goldblum role and "Indiana Jones" will be keeping "Indiana Jones" a male. So no problem there. It's just that as soon as the male leads are turned into females, everyone loses their minds.
You might be thinking why is this important? Girls need role models too. Girls need to be able to go and see a cool action movie and see themselves. Oh, but Katniss! Black Widow! Wonder Woman! Rey! Yes, I'm so happy those character's exist, it's so cool! But they aren't enough. Men don't need anymore role models in action movies -- I'm sorry but they don't. Girls need to see that they can be funny, that they can star in an action movie and not be dressed in a tiny sexy outfit. That they can be both the scientist behind the scenes and the awesome lady shooting off the big gun. The force can be strong in them, they can win the Hunger Games, they can catch ghosts, and they can outrun a dinosaur in heels.
I will be going to see "Ghostbusters" this summer, and I urge you to as well. Even if you think the movie looks stupid (outside of the all female cast), please go see it. There is so much backlash against it that I am scared if it flops, it'll be a while before something like this is tried again. So please, stand up against the meninists who don't think women deserve to be funny and fight ghosts because we so do, and we can do it in heels if we want to.
