Hey, guys! I'm back today with another book review. Following the suit of last week's article, I chose "The Ghost and the Dead Deb" written by Alice Kimberly. It is the second book in the "Haunted Bookshop" series, following its predecessor "The Ghost and Mrs. McClure."
"The Ghost and the Dead Deb" takes place one year after the previous book in Quincott, a small town in Rhode Island. Penelope Thorton - McClure, co-owner of Buy the Book, just wants her bookshop's resident ghost, Jack Shepard, to stop haunting her customers and for things to go back to normal. So Penelope sets up another book reading and signing with an upcoming author, Angel Stark, best known for her non-fiction work of her life, as a party girl, and her most recent work a tell-all book about her high society friend's murder. But when Angel Stark is found dead not far from Finch's Inn, the local bed and breakfast, Penelope finds herself drawn back into the dangerous world of private detective work dragging an unwilling ghost along for the ride.
While not as good as its predecessor, this book is still quite good. This time, the story is more focused on Penelope instead of Jack and Penelope. So be forewarned if you decide to read this, it will be slightly different than the first. I personally like Jack Shepard and wish he was in the story more.
Although it's different, it still has the same humor and suspense as the first. I also thoroughly enjoyed the flashback scenes that the author put in. I found it to be very entertaining to find out more about Jack Shepard's past. I have a lot of respect for Alice Kimberly being able to pull off this series so well. There aren't many authors that can pull off good supernatural mysteries. Regardless of "The Ghost and the Dead Deb'"s faults, I still immensely enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next installment in the "Haunted Bookstore" series.
