Everyone has bad days, bad weeks, bad months, and sometimes it can just seem like a bad year. On the bad days, it is tempting to just shut down and go back to bed, but that won't help.

Instead, here is a list of 10 things to do instead that will make you feel better if you are having a bad day.

1. Paint or draw

I do this almost every day, whether it has been a good day or bad day. It's very stress relieving to paint or draw how you feel.

2. Listen to music

As much as you want to listen to sad songs and wallow in your sadness, try to listen to upbeat songs, or songs you would listen to normally. Singing along to music always makes me feel better.

3. Exercise

Exercising when you have had a bad day will make you feel better about yourself. It always feels good to kill a workout and sweat out whatever made you upset!

4. Treat yourself!

Treat yourself to something you like! For me, it would be ice cream. Go ahead and treat yourself, you deserve it.

5. Make a list of the things you needed to do that day

Making a list of things you needed to do, or still need to do helps keep you organized, which could make you feel better. Include some things you already completed, then feel the satisfaction of crossing them off the list.

6. Talk to a friend

Just talking to a friend can help you feel better, and makes it easier to go through because you know you are not alone.

7. Stay off social media

It can be hard to stay off social media, but it can make you feel worse. Generally, people post pictures that they are having fun in and it makes their life look perfect. Seeing these "perfect" pictures can make you compare yourself to that.

8. Pet a dog (or cat!)

If you can, pet a dog or cat! It makes you feel better, and the animal will love it!

9. Read some quotes

Reading motivational or inspiring quotes always helps me get through hard days. I saw one in my doctor's office that I really liked, "Every storm runs out of rain. Yours is almost over." Repeat a quote to yourself and know that you will get through it.

10. Cry it out

Don't be afraid to cry it out! If you hold it in too long, it will only get worse. Sometimes a good cry is all it takes.

No matter how hard it gets, you will get through it. You can get through anything life throws at you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
