It’s not as easy as you’d think to find a gay best friend (GBF, for short). It’s not like the movies. There’s never a moment when he miraculously sits with you at lunch and you instantly click. There’s definitely some searching involved. But once you find him, you can never let him go. And if you haven’t found one, you better start searching soon.

A GBF is honest when one of your girlfriends isn’t. You know that guy you’re too good for? Your girlfriends will say he’s cute and let you destroy your life. But your GBF? No way. He will tear apart every ill-worn snapback and rude comment because he knows you deserve nothing but the best and will not stop until you get it. Your lipstick isn’t the right shade for you? He won’t lie and say that it’s fierce. Your shirt's too sheer to wear without something underneath? He will 100 percent point it out. No matter how brutal his honesty may be, he does it because he cares about you, and you know that.

A GBF is the perfect source for advice on boys because not only does he have an idea as to how boys think, but he also knows the struggles of trying to figure them out. He offers a fresh perspective, but he still manages to give you the usual blunt advice that only a male can provide. GBFs are much more than advice-givers, but, let’s be honest, they’re still great at it!

A GBF can always make you laugh. I thoroughly believe that a brilliant sense of humor is genetically wired into all gay guys — and I love it. You know that great-smelling cologne that stinks up your car whenever you go somewhere with your GBF? It’s laced with sarcasm, as is essentially everything that comes out of his mouth. Whether it’s a well-timed “same” or a perfectly witty comeback, a GBF always knows how to make you laugh, especially when you need it most.

A GBF isn’t afraid to be mean, sure being kind to people is important, but when someone is mean to you, your GBF is there. That honesty and sense of humor he brings to the table manifest themselves in his brutality. He not only reassures you that there is nothing wrong with you, but also that virtually everything is wrong with your new nemesis. Seriously, a GBF can be savage, especially when it comes to revenge.

Most of all, a GBF loves you when you have no one else to turn to. When your friends betray you, or that boy breaks your heart, your GBF is right by your side, gladly indulging in that carton of ice cream with you. He might not turn on a sad movie like your girlfriends, but he'll opt for a stupid sitcom to make you laugh. You’ll drive with the windows down late at night and blast your favorite song. Even if things might not be great right now, he will help you accept them, and you’ll get through it like you do everything else: together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
