'Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout' Is The New Fortnite, And It's Taking The Gaming Community By Storm

This new battle royale is taking the gaming community by storm, and it's not difficult to see why.

On August 4, 2020, after several years of Fortnite claiming a monopoly over the battle royale genre, a new competitor arose and captured the hearts of millions. "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout," or "Fall Guys" for short, is a platformer battle royale in which up to 60 players compete in a series of minigames that range from obstacle courses to egg-hoarding. This game came out of nowhere, and within the first 24 hours of its release had already sold over a million copies. Even the developers at Mediatonic hadn't anticipated such a massive influx of players, as evidenced by the servers having issues in the game's early days as a result. Needless to say, the game has been an overwhelming success, and this success continues to grow with each passing day.

What many love about "Fall Guys" is its simplicity, which can be seen in both its gameplay and in its overall aesthetic.

The bright colors, cutesy visuals, and goofy avatars all come together to give the game a charming feel that draws in people of all ages. The skins players can purchase using in-game currency also add to this charm, as well as providing an incentive for them to keep playing so that they can unlock that glorious dinosaur costume. As for its gameplay, "Fall Guys" excels at creating a fun and addictive experience with its various minigames.

These minigames can be split into three categories: Race, Survival, and Team.

Race games have everyone race through an obstacle course of some kind to reach the finish line. Survival games involve trying to last the longest against some kind of challenge, such as avoiding a zombie-like infection. Team games split the players into two or more teams that compete against each other to advance to the next round. Each game has five rounds, with the winner of the final round being the winner. Winning a game of "Fall Guys" may seem easy at first glance, but believe me when I say that winning is a true feat that even some of the best gamers out there struggle to accomplish.

A good portion of the popularity "Fall Guys" has earned can be owed to streamers on YouTube and, more notably, Twitch.

"Fall Guys" has already skyrocketed to become one of the most popular games currently being streamed on Twitch, with countless big names in the industry sharing their gameplay with thousands of fans across the world. A notable streamer who gained a massive following from the game is Tim Betar, better known as his online alias TimTheTatman. The Internet poked fun at him as he struggled with "Fall Guys," failing to get a win over and over while live on Twitch. Even the "Fall Guys" Twitter account was in on the joke. That is, until Tim finally won a game on stream, much to the surprise of the millions who tuned in to watch it all go down. "HE DID IT" and variations of the phrase were trending on Twitter after the momentous victory took place. This is just one example of how "Fall Guys" has managed to bring people together to appreciate the glorious triumphs and hilarious defeats that take place in it.

Some say that "Fall Guys" will fade out of the limelight soon enough, but I believe that it has what it takes to stand the test of time.

And even if it doesn't stand the test of time, it won't soon be forgotten for the good times and laughs it brought the gaming community. I recommend that anyone who hasn't yet picked up this game logs onto their PlayStation 4 or PC and gives it a go, either by themselves or with a group of friends. "Fall Guys" is, at its core, exactly what the gaming community needed right now: a game that is truly, unequivocally fun.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
