I'm an avid TV watcher. I have a few shows that I obsessively watch over and over, and I'm almost always watching something new. But one show that I've never been able to get into is "Game of Thrones." I know, I know, it's amazing and I need to watch it. Frankly, I just haven't been interested enough to watch it, but despite my indifference, I know an awful lot about the show. As someone with family, friends, and a boyfriend who watch "Game of Thrones," I've learned a few things just from hearing them talk about it. It's strange that we know things about TV shows we've never watched and people we've never met; in the words of Kimmy Schmidt, "why do I know this!?" This is a brief summary of the hit HBO show "Game of Thrones." Spoiler alert for anyone who isn't caught up to the current season.
1. Everyone loves Daenerys.
So I know that her full name is Daenerys-something-something-Mother-of-Dragons-something-Kaleesi-Targaryen. I think she may have been burned at the stake as a child. She didn't die, and now she can control dragons. She is a Queen and is married to someone from the Dothraki. Besides her obviously pretty cool power to control dragons, I'm not really sure what's so special about her. I feel like she sits in a throne for the majority of the show because she's so powerful she doesn't need to do anything but sit in the throne; hence, the title "Game of Thrones."
2. The House Stark
To be completely honest, all I can think of when I think of "houses" is the four houses of Hogwarts. As far as I know, there are two houses people care about in "Game of Thrones": Stark and Lannister. The Starks are definitely the Gryffindors of "Game of Thrones." They're probably responsible for most of the ridiculousness in the show, yet the audience loves them anyway. I know there was someone named Rob Stark (leader of the Starks?) who died but he coined the phrase "Winter is coming." Somehow Jon Snow is a Stark, which doesn't really make sense, but neither does anything else in this show.
3. Everybody hated King Joffrey.
Somehow, this 14 year old became King and went mad with power. I'm not sure what he did to make everyone hate him so much, but it must have been pretty bad. Honestly, he kind of has crazy eyes so I'm not surprised he's so evil. Someone poisoned him at a ceremony and the crowd probably went wild.
4. Everyone is always naked.
Out of the very few scenes I've seen from "Game of Thrones," at least two of them used nude actors. In one of them, some woman must have done something wrong because they cut off her hair and made her walk down the street as people threw things at her. Like the gratuitous amount of nudity in the show, this scene felt a little excessive.
5. When Jon Snow died, the world practically ended (just wanted to add a little reminder of that spoiler alert).
I remember playing around on my iPad while my boyfriend watched the season whatever finale of "Game of Thrones." All of a sudden, he started yelling "NO, WHY, NO!" at his TV. Apparently Jon Snow had died. Jon Snow was part of the Night's Watch. I assume they were like vigilante police or something and they recruited kids to be part of it. Jon Snow may have betrayed them so they each took turns stabbing him and saying "for the Watch" until he died. Fortunately, Jon Snow came back to life in episode two of the latest season. Apparently there is also witchcraft in "Game of Thrones" and people are magically brought back to life.
6. The North.
I don't know what "the North" is. I'm going to assume that the North is bad mainly because every time I see a gif of someone saying the words "the North," they don't seem very happy about it. The North may have something to do with "Winter is coming", so it's possible that the Starks are the North. There's also a wall that separates the North from everything else.
7. Everyone dies.
No character is safe on "Game of Thrones." It's as if the writers live to bring pain to their audience by killing off all of their favorite characters. Jon Snow is one of the lucky ones who isn't permanently dead...for now anyway.
8. The Iron Throne.
I think that whoever sits in the Iron Throne holds the most power in the "Game of Thrones" universe. Until his death, Joffrey occupied the throne. Now it's occupied by Ben Wyatt...oh wait, that's a different show.
Maybe one day I'll decide to watch the show, and all of this knowledge I've acquired will come in handy.
