[SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T WATCHED THE SHOW OR READ THEBOOKS -- EVEN IF YOU ARE SIMPLY CONTEMPLATING STARTING THE SHOW, DON'T EVEN SKIM THE ARTICLE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.]
Now that the initial awe, shock and excitement of the "Game of Thrones" Season 6 finale has mostly passed, fans are all wondering what is left for us to do as we wait yet another year for a new season. After six seasons, most would believe that we are used to the yearlong wait and have adapted to it. However, the ending of this particular finale is special.
While the action wasn't as there as it was in the previous finales, this one set up the narrative of the next season with beautiful promises. [SPOILER ALERT] We have the Mad Queen, Daenerys finally sailing to Westeros with her fleet, a possible reunion between all the Stark children (or at least the ones that are still alive), Arya the Assassin, Jon's birth parents, many prophecies coming to light and lastly, after six seasons, Winter is finally here.
This finale weaved so many webs for fans to latch onto and scream in anticipation for. That is what separates this yearlong wait from all the others. Every single foreshadowing that the show has given its viewers is being brought forth in the next two seasons, and we absolutely can't even think about having to wait for it. We have waited for six seasons with tiny hints and fan theories. Just when they were finally giving us answers, the camera pans out and the screen goes black.
Other than the finale as a whole being fantastic, there were many stunning individual moments that deserve the spotlight. However, in my view, the part that had the majority of fans rattled was the confirmation of the R + L = J theory. While most stick to watching the show, fans of the book series, before the creation of the popular series, were waiting for the confirmation of this theory since the late '90s. While they didn't receive this glorious reveal in the books, just simply knowing that the thing many fans theorize to be true leaves a sweet taste.
Sadly, it doesn't seem as though George R. R. Martin will be finishing the sixth book of the series, "The Winds of Winter" anytime soon. He had planned to release the book before the sixth season of the show, but clearly, that did not go according to plan. Thus, fans of the books will have to deal with the show potentially spoiling the rest of the books. However, most fans of the books are huge fans of the show as well, and so it is not a complete letdown to be spoiled.
