Lady Gaga took a spin on soft-rock with her fifth album Joanne. This record definitely has some rock and folk vibes which is different for the usual pop artist. But Lady Gaga has always strayed far from the usual. Her sound and persona are always evolving and I think that is what's so beautiful about her. She's like a chameleon. I'm not a huge fan of pop music, but Gaga has always drawn me in. She's just so musically and artistically creative which she has shown on Joanne.
Gaga has always had the heavy pop sound, but it seems that she starts over with this record. Her vocals, along with the music are raw and powerful. "A-YO" is one of my favorite tracks from the record with its clap-along beat. On Joanne, Gaga had some help with production from Mark Ronson and Tame Impala's Kevin Parker throughout, but particularly on "Perfect Illusion." This track captures Gaga's voice so well and the rock-vibes are super present. She has a duet with Beck on "Dancin' In Circles" but you can hardly hear his vocals. It's still a great song nonetheless and somehow reminds me of The Fame Monster.
Although this record is classified more as soft-rock, I do think it has some disco vibes. But it also almost seems like a sound similar to Bruce Springsteen. She underrated her promotion of the album and with the release of "Perfect Illusion," I think many Gaga fans were disappointed that the record wasn't going to be her usual pop sound. Any sound she goes with though is always beautiful in its own way. I think this record shows that Gaga is doing whatever she wants or whatever she feels like and I think that's great for her. She's not confined to one main aspect of the industry. I believe that she's a magnificent artist and finally coming out with her own sound. I think Ms. Germanotta is truly happy with this new direction despite what other's think. The way I see it, if she's happy doing whatever sound, then I'll always support her. She's a true artist.
