5 Things My Future Significant Other Should Know

Just because I am perpetually single doesn't mean I can't think about what the future may hold.

To my future partner/significant other/whatever you might be called,

Hello.

I hope this (open) letter finds you well.

If we've already met, I'm sure you know how cool I am (or at least how cool I think I am), and I'm hoping that you think the same.
If we haven't already met, then you are in for one heck of a ride.

No matter what the case may be, I feel like these things are important for you to know.

1. I love animals.

Now, most people would fill this slot with "puppies/dogs" or "kittens/cats" instead of just "animals". However, I love them equally and I am just as likely to fawn (pun intended) over other animals. I'm the kind of person who is unwilling to kill a spider just because it's living in my house, and if you want to do that, just make sure I'm not around when you do, and definitely don't tell me if you do.

2. My sense of humor is all over the place.

Let's be real here: if you don't know and understand this, you probably shouldn't even be reading this article. Puns are one of my favorite sources of humor, and it will be a cold day in Hell when I pass up on the opportunity to use a "bad" pun. I will not hesitate to laugh at a good meme (notice that I said good meme). You will often find me laughing to myself about something that I found funny from most anywhere, including my favorite show Impractical Jokers. You may even find me laughing at a joke that I made myself, especially those that involve my ridiculous selfies. I'm quite hopeful that you will have your own unique sense of humor that makes me laugh just as much as I make myself laugh.

3. I will always prefer quality over quantity*.

No matter what the situation is, I will choose quality over quantity. If you give me a gift, I would sooner prefer a special gift that you chose, or even one that you made all on your own over all of the other gifts in the world. I would rather do something that I thoroughly enjoy for an hour than spend four hours doing something that I hate.

*There are two exceptions to this. The first exception is food. When it comes to food, both quality and quantity are preferred. The second exception is spending time with you.

4. I may seem to enjoy some things too much.

Some examples of things that people think I enjoy "too much" are Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and books in general. There are many other things that I could list in this category, but trust me when I say that I have good reasons for this. More than likely, these things that I seem to enjoy and care about "too much" have seen me through my darkest days. They were there for me when no one else was, and because of this I hold these things close to my heart. I can only hope that you can understand this and that you'll share these things with me.

5. I may seem like I care too much about a lot of things.

At times, this might even mean you. But you should know that this is because I know what it's like to lose things. I know what it's like to lose people to me in various ways. I know what it's like to lose things that I care about. I care about these things fiercely because I want to enjoy them as much as I can in the limited time that I will have with them.

I can only hope that you will be able to learn and understand not only these things, but all of the other parts of myself that make me who I am. I will certainly do my best to do the same for you.

With all of my love,

~Makenzee

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
