I am so sick and tired of hearing the saying “you can be anything you want to be!” over and over again while growing up. That is just a bunch of bologna! What do you mean I can be anything I want to be? That statement is so wrong and so full of false hopes. Why is it that everyone drills this thought into our heads at such a young age? You can be an astronaut! The president! A famous actor or actress! You can be whatever your heart desires! No! No! No! This is so so wrong. There is nothing written down in the rule book of life that says if you want something really really badly to happen then it will. Life has no guarantees, life has no handouts to those who just “wish.” Life rewards those who get out there, put things in motion and work hard. The more realistic saying to live by and to instill in the younger generations would be “You have the ability to become whatever you work hard enough to achieve.” You have the ability to become whatever you want but if your work ethic does not match your goals then you can just kiss them goodbye.
People above you in this world have the ability to restrict these dreams from happening. They have the ability to say no. No, you can’t have this job, no you can’t get into this school, no you can’t buy this or wear that. No, No, NO.
So how can one stay positive in this world of no’s? How can one promote positivity when real life is always so negative? Even though it seems it, life doesn’t have to be this way. You can have your cake and eat it too. You have to work so hard at what you want that those above you can’t say no. That they can’t deny your talent or tell you to try again next year. They can’t reject you from the school of your choice or deny you the scholarship you so rightfully deserve. You have the power to decide the outcome of your own future. Destroying the no’s might mean you have to sacrifice a few fun nights out with friends, it might mean that those lackadaisical days of laying around are now far in the past and it might even mean that you have to give up on a few extra activities. This is where the ball is in your court. You make the hard decisions of what is worth it and what isn’t. You have the power of yes. You can’t be anything you want to be but you can be everything you work hard enough for.
