And The Oscar Goes To...

I've collected my personal (and possibly a little biased) Oscar picks.

Awards Watch

The Oscars are around the corner- another chance for us to escape into the glamor of Hollywood for a few hours. Today, I'm stepping into the shoes of the Oscar committee and passing out Oscars like Oprah.

Best picture/cast that I’d most like to adopt me:

Nominees:

- Hell or High Water

- La La Land

- Hidden Figures

- Hacksaw Ridge

- Arrival

- Fences

- Lion

- Moonlight

- Manchester By The Sea

Winner: Hidden Figures

Janelle Monáe. Octavia Spencer. Taraji P. Henson. The three mothers I never knew I needed.

Honorable Mention: Arrival

Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner would be an unstoppable parenting duo.

Best lead actor/actor that I’d most like to settle down and have a few kids with:

Nominees:

- Ryan Gosling (La La Land)

- Denzel Washington (Fences)

- Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge)

- Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea)

- Viggo Mortensen (Mister Fantastic)

Winner: Ryan Gosling

I know it's mainstream, but I just couldn't turn this beauty down. I mean LOOK AT HIM.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Garfield

Because of his nerdy charm and, truly, to say that I'm married to Spider-Man.

Best lead actress/actress that I’d most like to get D-RUNK with:

Nominees:

- Isabelle Huppert (Elle)

- Ruth Negga (Loving)

- Natalie Portman (Jackie)

- Emma Stone (La La Land)

- Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins)

Winner: Complete, unbreakable tie between Emma Stone and Meryl Streep.

Emma and I would bond over awkward encounters and our shared love of food of all kinds.

Truly, I just think Meryl would go from 'dancing on tables' drunk to 'political Trump rants' drunk in the blink of an eye, and I'm so there for it.

Best original score/music that I’d most like to be the soundtrack to my life:

Nominees:

- Jackie

- La La Land

- Lion

- Moonlight

- Passengers

Winner: La La Land

With this music playing in the background of my daily life, I would be tap-dancing my way around town.

Best animated film/animated film I’d most like to get stuck in:

Nominees:

- Kubo And The Two Strings

- Moana

- My Life As A Zucchini

- Zootopia

- The Red Turtle

Winner: Moana

Because: Girl power.

Honorable Mention: Zootopia

It would be like a weird episode of The Twilight Zone, but I would love running around with Judy and Nick as they solve crimes and break down barriers.

Best makeup/makeup artist that I need most in my life:

Nominees:

- A Man Called Ove (Eva von Bahr and Love Larson)

- Star Trek Beyond (Joel Harlow and Richard Alonzo)

- Suicide Squad (Alessandro Bertolazzi & Crew)

Winner: Passengers

Okay, so I cheated; Passengers wasn't nominated. But I want to look as good as Jennifer Lawrence after having been hibernated in space. (Honestly, how does her hair still look so nice?!)

Honorable Mention: Suicide Squad

I wouldn't mind looking like Margot Robbie in any form, even if it's as Harley Quinn.

So prepare your best ballgowns and get ready to settle in on the couch for the night as the most beautiful people in the world come together in one room.

May we all be as excited as Eddie Redmayne receiving an Oscar.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
