For the love of all that is good and pure, spring break is FINALLY here. I don’t know about you, but I have just about had it with this Tallahassee weather behaving like a middle-aged woman going through menopause/ a gym-juicing man who accidentally mixed up his protein shake one day.
It has gotten a little out of hand. Winter in Florida is only supposed to be two combined weeks out of the year, and instead it has turned into Game of Thrones with this ongoing “winter is coming.” Finally, I can sit down and relax at the beach with my piña colada (yes, I sometimes drink piña coladas. This is a judge-free zone).
If you are like me, you will be going to the Tampa Bay area to spend your spring break. If you’re new to Florida and don’t know about Tampa, you should really check it out. Tampa Bay is one of the best places to spend your spring break with many things to do, including: going to amazing beaches in Clearwater and St. Petersburg, attending theme parks such as Busch Gardens and Adventure Island in the city of Tampa, walking in parks and zoos such as Curtis Hixon Park and Lowry Park Zoo, and a ton of other amazing places to try. However, if you’re like most college students, all you care about are the beaches. Let me tell you right now, you will not find better beaches in all of Florida than Tampa Bay.
Pier 60 in Clearwater is a spring break favorite as it is easily accessible, close to lots of restaurants, and within walking distance of several hotels. If you are looking for other beaches to attend, make sure not to overlook St. Pete Beach or Treasure Island as they are world-renowned beaches that you can’t miss!
Of course, what is spring break without the nightlife? Tampa has everything you are looking for. Ybor City hosts some of the most famous clubs, Hyde Park has some amazing bars, and, last but certainly not least, South Howard (also known as SoHo) is home to the local favorite MacDinton’s as well as several other bars, including a World of Beer. On a side note, if you have ever wanted to visit the first World of Beer, go to the original location in Westchase. It has all the beer you could ever ask for. It’s also next to a Tijuana Flats, an Irish Pub, and a bar that serves liquor. You literally don’t need to go anywhere else.
So if you make the trip down to the Tampa Bay area, have an absolute blast of a time. However, make sure that you stay safe and order cabs. Nobody wants to not see you back in Tallahassee because you got arrested for a DUI. Be smart, be safe, and have fun!
