It is finally June and the first day of summer is just 10 days away! With summer fast occurring; vacations planned for families, young romance in the air, and couples eager to spend time together, the question frequently pops up, what do we do today? Summer is such a great time for couples of all ages, to go on road trips, get some fresh air, make a trip to fast food restaurants for a bite to eat. What I noticed though is this day in age often date ideas can be expensive at times. I live in Pittsburgh and going to a Pirate Game is always an exciting fun evening/weekend night but between paying for parking, tickets, food, and other pirate gear it adds up. So for someone in a relationship or trying to get in one because summer romance does exist I thought I would provide some insight about some creative, romantic, enjoyable, quick and sometimes FREE date ideas.

1.) A free outdoor concert

Often new bands will perform free to find a new audience and word of mouth about their music. The nice thing about it being outdoors on a great day is a nice wind and you can bring your own seating. You can even make it a dinner occasion and pack a picnic.

2.) Netflix and Chill ;)

For those who actually take this phrase seriously; Netflix and cuddling is always a preferred and comfortable activity. Being in college the more I ask around the more I realize almost everyone has a Netflix account. There are hundreds of shows, movies, and really neat/ informative documentaries. The cool thing about watching Netflix with your partner is you get to learn about their childhood shows and movies because there is a children and family section. My boyfriend and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching "Lilo Stitch" movies.

3.) A night under the stars!

Take a drive somewhere in the middle of nowhere or off the beaten path like I prefer to say it. You would be amazed how an evening and night away from traffic, noise, construction and evening family and in a quiet area can bring you closer together. So get a blanket to lay on if you are in grass and a blanket to wrap each other in and enjoy the night sky and constellations

4.) Homemade dinner and dancing

One of my favorite date ideas. I am very fortunate that I have a significant other who is a pro in the kitchen. Cooking is also better if the two of you work together. It's important to have fun, be a little messy at times, and let the delicious recipe that was made do the talking. I would recommend dancing to this mix, adds to the mood of the evening

5.) Let's get wet!; water gun and balloon fight!

Since it is summer, it gets hot out I thought this would be a creative and especially competitive afternoon. Buy a bag of water balloons from the dollar store and make as many as you want. make sure you don't have your phone in your pocket and go with the fun! See how many times you can hit one another and then laugh and hug it out in the end.

I could go on and on about you don't have to empty your wallet and drain your bank account to impress one another. Being in a relationship is about enjoying each others company, being who you really want to be, and making endless memories. So here is to another wonderful and hot summer!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
