With the stresses of the first round of tests over, homecoming season coming to a close and the crisp fall air surrounding campus, it is the perfect time to make plans or put some fun events on the calendar! I did some research and came up with a list events that sound like a lot of low-key fun to check out in Columbia, Mo.

1. Citizen Jane Film Festival

This is a film festival that takes place in downtown Columbia and is four days long, lasting from Oct. 22-25. This film festival showcases films and documentaries by female filmmakers from around the world. This film festival is known for being a very diverse cultural experience and has been happening annually since 2008. Tickets can be purchased at www.citizenjanefilmfestival.org and are available in one-viewing prices along with four-day passes.

2. Blue Note Concert

Who doesn’t love a good concert at the Blue Note? The atmosphere, including crazy or pumped-up fans along with amazing live music performances, really makes for a fun or unforgettable night. Some of the upcoming concerts include Dan + Shay, Timeflies, Young the Giant and many others. Tickets and times can be viewed online at www.thebluenote.com along with more information regarding each performance.

3. Fall Festivities

What better time of the year? Really, who doesn’t love that perfect not-too-cold, not-too-hot weather, with warm sunlight, leaves changing, and fall aromas in the air. Take advantage of the wonderful season of fall by doing something classic such as carving a pumpkin, making apple cider, drinking a pumpkin spice latte, eating Halloween candy, or even having a scary movie marathon. Pinterest is the perfect website to get ideas for fun fall activities.

4. Artrageous Festival

This festival is the weekend of October 16-18, 2015 and is dedicated to the cultural and art scene in Columbia, Mo. This weekend is dedicated to local artists showcasing their skills along with artistic participation that includes everyone with more than 20 local businesses and restaurants that are choosing to be a part of this weekend event. For more information and details visit http://www.artrageousweekends.org to get the scoop.

Hopefully, one of these four fun fall events, festivals, concerts or activities sparks an interest as something fun and memorable to take part in as a student in Columbia. There are many amazing on-campus events to take part in each week, but why not venture out into the Columbia, Mo. community and do something fun?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
