Netflix is bringing back a piece of the 90's on February 26th with the premiere of "Fuller House," a "Full House" spinoff. Returning to the beloved San Francisco row house are Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin), Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), Becky Katsopolis (Lori Loughlin), and Nicky and Alex Katsopolis (Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit). Michelle Tanner, portrayed by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, will unfortunately not be returning to the set. The premiere of "Fuller House" is getting much of the hype that it is because America watched the Tanners grow up. They became the family that was part of our family, and now we get to be welcomed inside of their home once again.
The premise of the new take on "Full House" revolves around a newly widowed DJ seeking help to raise her three sons. If this sounds familiar, it is just a gender role reversal of a newly widowed Danny raising his three daughters. While Danny turned to his brother-in-law, Jesse, and best friend Joey, it seems that DJ has enlisted her sister Stephanie and best friend Kimmy for help. From the trailer, it seems that Stephanie has volunteered herself to move in and DJ willingly complies. Then Kimmy says "I'll move in, too!" which DJ and Stephanie deem unnecessary. Kimmy proceeds to do what Kimmy does best, barges into where she is not wanted or needed.
I am not-so-secretly hoping that Kimmy Gibbler is just an older-looking version of the annoying, hilarious teenager that she was. Will "Fuller House" bring back Jesse's hair obsession and "have mercy," Joey's incessant jokes and "cut it out's," and Stephanie's "how rude's?" I already miss Michelle's "you got it dude," but I am hoping that DJ had a really adorable kid who will make up for it. Will Nicky and Alex inherit their father's musical talents and obsession with his hair? Will Gibbler's apparent daughter be a chip off the old block?
Whether the characters are unfamiliar portrayals of the ones we knew and loved or are just bigger, older versions of their once lovable selves, "Fuller House" is a great representation of an American family splitting up to pursue their own separate educations, careers, and lives, yet all finding a way back to each other. Though the "full" house did become an emptier one, there is always potential to make it full again and pick right back up where you started. So, if you're lost out there and you're all alone, Netflix is waiting to carry you home. Everywhere you look this Friday, you'll see "Fuller House," and it is just waiting to carry you home to San Francisco.
