Kindness is an apple
but you’re an orange
hiding your true nature
under a thick peel
and upon release your soul
freely jumps into the eyes of the observer.
Politeness is a grape
but you’d rather be a grapefruit,
a big, hunkering grapefruit.
Your unsubtle taste overpowering all
and you can only go down covered
in a mound of sugar.
Your personality
is as prickly as a pineapple.
And your aroma
is something distinctly durian.
While you could be sweet, bland, and wholesome,
like a peach,
you act out
like a hairy kiwi.
I could squash you under
my foot
or
chomp you down to bits
and swallow you without a second thought.
But I won’t.
Instead, I’m as tolerant
as a sweet strawberry
And accept you as you are
with all the dullness of a watermelon.
My complaints as real
As a blue raspberry
You might be a lemon,
But I make lemonade
If it's too sour,
I add sugar
In the end,
Sweet
Sour
We both sit there
Happily blended in a bowl
Our ripe juices at the bottom
melding together
in a fruit salad.
