College isn’t for everyone. Let’s just put that out there. It’s so hard to admit, but it’s true.

You don’t want to let your family and friends down, but most of all you don’t want to show up to your high school reunion as a failure, right?

Most people go to college because it wasn’t an option. We were taught that if you just stayed home and worked or went to cosmetology or welding school that you were destined for failure.

So we went to college. We took the SAT and ACT and applied to a college. Some of us got scholarships and some didn’t. We couldn’t wait to get away from our hometown because we’ve been here all our lives. We wanted a change of scenery. We wanted to be able to stay out until 3 a.m., and not get in trouble. We wanted our own space and a new place to call home.

We didn’t realize how hard the classes would be. We didn’t realize the stress college gives you. You stress about tests and the next time you'll be able to eat because you ran out of meal plan, and when you’re not stressing about tests, you’re stressing about not stressing about tests. It’s a full circle of stress constantly repeating itself.

You thought college would be so fun, and that you would meet your lifelong friends, right? Because that’s what they told us. When you realize that’s not how it is and that you have to choose between having a social life, food, sanity, and school. You can’t have all of those. Choose 2. Maybe.

You can’t come home because it doesn’t feel like home anymore. You’re always 17 when you come home. Your cats and dogs don't always recognize you, or they straight up ignore you because you left them. Your mom cries every time you leave to go back to college. You feel so guilty for ever leaving, and you want to come back.

You don’t know what to do, but you hate your classes, you have no friends anymore because you find out how fake everyone is, you hate the town you moved to, and you feel like your life is just a downward spiral.

You don’t want to go to class because it’s pointless, you’re going to fail that class anyway. You're going to fail all of your classes. Your ‘friends’ just like getting on to you for not going to class, but if they paid attention to you at all then they would know why you don’t go to class.

People joke about dropping out of college to become a stripper all the time, but they're just joking. If you hate college and you don't see a point in it, then drop out.

Go do something you want to do... but you don’t want to let down your family and friends. But why does that matter? They’re not going to live your life. This is your choice. Nobody owns you anymore. If you love doing hair and makeup, go to cosmetology school! If you want to serve God then go to seminary school! If you want to just get a good job then do something you’ll like. This is your life. Don’t live it for anyone else.

I’m sorry to the people that think I’m letting them down. Don't try to change my mind because I'm not going to. I don’t regret going to college, because I learned so much. And no, I’m not planning on going back. I’m doing this for me, for once. Go try to control someone else’s life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
