Anybody who grew up in a small town will tell you that their town is the best town, its just a small town thing. We all like to think that our town has the best people and that nothing can or will ever replace it. Sometimes we may think that we want to go and move into the big cities where we would have name brand stores at our beck and call, but then we realize just how fast and chaotic big city life is. The slowness and laid back feeling of a small town is nothing you can ever beat and will always be one of the qualities I look for in a town. As many of you know, I'm from the small town of Cygnet which if you blink an eye, you will have passed right through, but I couldn't even begin to say how much I am thankful for growing up there. Now every small town has their own little qualities that make them how they are, but here a few qualities that anybody from a small town can find true:
Everybody will do anything for anyone.
The people that choose to stay in the small town that they grew up in or even the people that decide to move in, will do anything humanly possible for anyone. Neighbors in small town are actual neighbors to each other where if you ever need anything or just want someone to talk to, they welcome you with open arms and a loving hear. Even if you just driving through and happen to get a flat tire, you can just go and knock on anyone's door and they will be more than willing to help you out any way they can. Now don't get me wrong, sure every town has that one grumpy person that all the kids like torment and sometimes causes the town a bad reputation, but in my view having one grumpy person compared to a thousand grumpy people in the city is a fair trade off.
Family is always first.
Family is the main focus for any small town. Everyone knows who is related to who and what's going on within each family. In good or bad times, the whole town will come together as one big family and help the individuals that may be going through a rough patch make it through or throw a celebration for a great achievement. You never have to worry about feeling lost and alone in a small town because everyone is family. You never truly notice the family feeling until you move away and see just how family strong your hometown is.
Childhood memories.
Growing up in a small town is definitely an experience in itself. All your friends lived right there were you just hopped on your bike and rode it down the road or met up with your friends for a little game of basketball at the community park. You spend those late night out with friends and neighbors out by the lake, listening to the crickets and frogs play their musical songs that make up the darkness of the night. You spend your summer nights gazing up at the clear sky, learning all the constellations so you can go back to school and brag to your teacher about it. Growing up in a small town allowed me to have that freedom to have fun and spend that time with my friends, not worrying about the stress that would be coming in our future.
Nobody truly understands the feeling of small town living unless you grew up there. Small towns may seem like a irrelevant piece of dirt on the map to some people, but are the world to others. My small town will always have a piece of my heart and I will always say with pride that I'm from a small town and proud. Small towns make the greatest people.
