Whichever friend you are, always know you have someone....
1: The "OH MY GOD HI GIRL...MISS YOU...LET'S HANG OUT SOON" Friend:
This friend is pretty great for lifting your spirits on a typical day and making you feel wanted. But, when it comes down to it, you know they don't ACTUALLY miss you, they're just saying it. And you also know you won't be hanging out with the friend anytime soon, the next time you see the person you'll be crossing the same road and saying the same thing, "Let's hang out soon!".
2: The "animal" Friend:
This is such an important friend, the animal friend. If you weren't raised with pets - or have never owned a pet - go to an animal shelter and make an animal friend... seriously! What is better than coming home to your bonehead dog running and jumping on you SO excited to see you? Or laying on the couch and your cat snuggling on your chest? Literally, there is nothing better. If one of your friends ran and jumped on you, you wouldn't greet them with a hug - you'd say "What the hell? Get off of me." And if they snuggled on your chest that would just be strange and awkward. You need this bundle of fur to just give you love and to cuddle with. Find a furry friend!
3: The "I had the worst day ever want to get wine and pizza?" Friend:
This friend might not be someone you would tell your deepest, darkest feelings, and you probably don't even trust the friend...but you do know they are a good time and will buy the biggest bottle of Moscato, eat endless amounts of pizza, and gossip with you for hours on end. They are always there for you but mainly only when alcohol is involved.
4: The "maybe I should get my sh*t together" Friend:
This friend is great. They are motivated and are a positive influence on you. You see this friend and think - holy crap I should SERIOUSLY get my sh*t together and be a little more like them. They won't push their lifestyles on you, or even ever tell you that you NEED to get your sh*t together, but they will motivate you and help you if you do ever decide to!
5: The "you need to get your sh*t together" Friend:
This friend is probably a hard-ass who only wants the best for you. They will straight up say, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER. You might not listen and you'll probably get mad they called you out, but the friend has planted the thought in your head, and someday it will click, you'll get your sh*t together, and you'll thank them for being so straight forward with you.
6: The "high school" Friend:
High School... what a weird time in life. Some people do not have the blessing to say they had or have friends from high school, but those of us who do will relate. The high school friend was there for you during the most emotional and hormonal time of your life. When one day you were Sporty Spice and the next you changed to Scary Spice, there was no telling who you'd be when you woke up. They were there for you and are still there now years after high school. They might not understand you now because your hormones have settled, and you have made many changes good and bad since you were 18. But they accept those changes and are always rooting you on from the sidelines no matter what.
7: The "smile and wave across campus" Friend, or the "courtesy smile" Friend:
This is more of an acquaintance, you met the person through mutual friends or at a party. You like each other's Instagram pictures and follow them on Twitter to show your allegiance to them... but you literally know nothing about the person. This friend is almost the best to have, especially if you are just in need of a familiar face in a crowd of people!
8: The "co-worker" Friend:
What a great friend, the co-worker friend. They are most likely someone you would never in a million years think you would bond with or come to like. Some might be 30 years older than you are, or 5 years younger. But the beauty of workplaces is that everyone is on the same playing field, just trying to get through their shift. Having friends at work is crucial to getting through those long days, you know you won't talk to them again until the next shift, but they are there and they are very important.
9: The "brother/sister" Friend:
Who else can say they have seen you pee your pants, eat dirt, watch you go through every awkward stage in life other than your brother or sister? They literally have seen you do the weirdest things possible... and they still don't mind sitting next to you at family dinners. You've probably gotten into physical and emotional fights with them, and the next day acted like nothing happened. They are not afraid to call you out on literally anything, and vice versa. What a strange and beautiful a sibling friendship is.
10: The Absolute Best Friend:
The absolute best friend is HARD to find, and you probably won't think they will become your absolute best friend but at some point they do. The absolute best friend is not perfect, but on a scale of 1 - Perfection they are at a 9.5 or higher. This friend is someone who you can be fully honest with, and accept the things they say when they are fully honest with you. You both have seen each other at your worst, and continue to push each other to never get that low again. You know every weird intimate secret, how they text, how they laugh, basically everything about them. Hanging out with the absolute best friend isn't even hanging out, it's just the norm. You want to be with this friend because they support you and make you feel most comfortable. This friend will have your back in any situation, no question about it, even when they know you are in the wrong. What an amazing thing to have an absolute best friend, hold on to this person and never let them go.
