A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend

"There comes a point in your life when you realize who really matters, who never did, and who always will."

A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend
Elizabeth Zamudio

There is a moment in every person’s life where they are fully aware that they have found their soul mate. Now you may be thinking that it is the person that they will spend the rest of their life with. I’m talking about the awkward person who you did not know or you did not like until they started talking to you in which that changed your life forever. So, to that awkward person, my best friend:

I want to thank you for letting me be me. Thank you for letting me feel so much like myself when I’m with you. Thank you for not making me wear any masks or put on any fronts. Thank you for sharing the happiest moments and for genuinely feeling the same; for listening to my saddest stories and for showing empathy and compassion wherever you are. Thank you for being the only person I can truly count on.

Thank you for being a beautiful person, inside and out. Thank you for making the world a better place, by just being in it. Thank you for making colors a little brighter, sunshine a little warmer, and hugs so much better. Thank you for loving me more than anyone I know could. Thank you for defining selfless, always putting others before yourself. I know you are going to change the world as much as much as you changed mine.

Thank you for the laughs, for the cries, and for everything in between. Thank you for being my rock, my anchor; for keeping me grounded when I feel like I might just blow away. Thank you for everything you do, whether it is big or small. Thank you for knowing my favorite bands, my favorite songs, my favorite color, and my favorite food. Thank you for always knowing what to say and for being one of life’s best teachers. Thank you for constantly making fun of me when I deserve it, and for loving me when I don’t. Thank you for staying constant in the world where everything changes, and for keeping a routine in a world full of chaos.

Thank you for letting me coming into your life when I wanted you to be in mine. Thank you for making sure that I didn’t get away from you all those years. Thank you for setting the bar so high and making it impossible to find another friend as good as you. Thank you for making those years we have been friends like forever and giving me enough memories to last a lifetime, but not ending there. Thank you for making me hurt when I miss you, but taking the pain away when I see you. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for the privilege to call you my best friend; thank you for being my person. Thank you for giving me these reasons and a million more to be thankful for.

Forever and Always,

Your Best Friend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
