Just Between Friends

To my best friend in another state,

Thank you for continuing to be my friend from miles and miles away. You are someone I can go to for homework help, fashion help, boy help, and anything else college life throws at me. Knowing that I have you by my side, even from states away, makes college so much better. I love that I can tell you all about my friends here at Miami University, and you can tell me all about your school friends. I love when we’re FaceTiming and our friends pop on the screen and we all get to meet. I love hearing about your wild nights out and your tough essays you need to write.

Seeing your pictures posted on social media makes me so happy because I probably picked it out of the ten others you sent me. When I tell you I’m going to have a night in, you always have movie and Netflix suggestions for me. You’re always willing to hear my rants about anything and everything and you always give me advice. Thanks for laughing at all my ridiculous jokes and comments, that usually aren’t as funny as I think, and for listening to all my pointless stories that go on and on forever.

I love hearing about everything going on at your school and I’m so proud of everything you’ve done. You are so smart and hardworking, and you continue to inspire me to be better every day. I am happy to review your essays or hear you practice a speech. I’m honored that you choose to have me look at your homework and pick out your outfits. Listening to your school drama is always a good time because it always sparks more stories for me to tell. I will always be real with you and give you advice that I truly think is helpful. I will always be here for you, no matter how far, and I know you will be too.

Being so far from you should be hard, but it’s not. We make it possible to keep in touch and we make a point to catch up on each other's lives when it’s been a while. You are the absolute best and I’m so grateful to have you in my life. Thank you for everything. I can’t imagine my college experience without you.

I can’t wait to see you next, even if we don’t know when that will be. Thank you for your endless love and support, you mean the world to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
